MRF Tipping Floor Monitor & Equipment Operator

Responsibilities/Pay Grade

JOB SUMMARY: PG H103

Operates industrial equipment in MRF, including forklift and skid steer to transport raw recyclables into production equipment. Prepares daily reports. Records logs of recycled materials. Works under direct supervision of MRF Plant Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safely operates all material handling equipment.

Prepares various reports regarding operations and workload.

Monitors and reports activities of the facility to the Plant Supervisor.

Loads materials into production equipment.

Records work in detailed logs.

Logs trucks coming onto tipping floor.

Monitors the safe transportation and loading/unloading of trucks and trailers.

Monitors the tipping floor for equipment activity and foot traffic safety.

Separates refuse from recyclable materials.

Ensures the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, parking areas, grass and roadside as required.

Assists, directs and educates unskilled laborers in proper disposal methods.

Lifts heavy items.

Climbs on stairs, catwalks and equipment.

Inspects and observes equipment and machinery.

Records operational or production data.

May clean, inspect, or lubricate recyclable collection equipment or perform routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment, such as discs and belts.

Cleans production equipment.

May lubricate production equipment or tools.

Sweeps and/or shovels raw materials.

All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read and write at an elementary school level, and comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions. Also the ability to make basic arithmetic computations, and understand numerical data and information, e.g., gauges, speedometer and odometer readings and safety signs.

Communicate orally and in writing.

Employees may work 8 - 12 hours daily. Overtime is required when needed.

During emergency events operators are required to work 7 days a week for 10 to 12 hours per day.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of or ability to obtain forklift and skid steer certifications within 6 months from date of hire.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to unpleasant and hazardous working conditions, such as moving mechanical parts, vibrations, high precarious places, noxious unpleasant fumes, and airborne particles.

Working conditions are typically loud in work area while operating equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Climbs stairs, on catwalks, and on equipment.
