Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic with expertise in repairing and maintaining diesel-powered heavy machinery, including but not limited to Drills, excavators, skid steers, loaders, and trucks. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge in hydraulic systems, engine diagnostics, and repair, as well as general mechanical troubleshooting skills to ensure all equipment is operating at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities:
•Engine Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose, repair, and overhaul diesel engines, ensuring they run efficiently and meet safety standards. Perform engine performance analysis, adjustments, and preventive maintenance.
•Hydraulic Systems: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, motors, cylinders, and hoses. Perform hydraulic fluid changes, pressure testing, and component replacements as needed.
•Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled and emergency maintenance on heavy equipment to prevent failures. Replace filters, lubricate parts, check fluid levels, and ensure optimal performance.
•Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and technical resources to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in equipment. Accurately assess the nature of malfunctions and recommend solutions.
•Repairs and Overhaul: Perform repairs, overhauls, and replacements of engines, transmissions, hydraulic components, and other mechanical systems as required. Ensure all work complies with manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations.
•Welding & Fabrication: Utilize welding equipment for metal repairs or fabrications, including but not limited to welding cracks in heavy machinery frames, buckets, or other critical parts.
•Component Replacement: Replace worn-out parts such as belts, hoses, seals, bearings, and other mechanical components to ensure machinery is in working order.
•Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used. Complete work orders and provide reports on job status, work completed, and any required follow-up.
•Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensuring that equipment and work areas are in compliance with safety regulations.
•Collaboration: Work closely with the equipment operators and other team members to troubleshoot mechanical issues and ensure the availability and reliability of heavy machinery.
Qualifications:
•Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Repair, or a related field is highly desirable.
•Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience working on heavy equipment or diesel engines. Experience with hydraulic systems and troubleshooting is required.
•Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
•Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
•Proficient in using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
•Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, TIG, Stick welding).
•Knowledge of fluid systems, air systems, and electronics on heavy machinery.
•Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
•ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification or equivalent is preferred.
•Hydraulic Technician Certification is a plus.
•CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) may be required, depending on job responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
•Ability to work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
•Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
•Must be able to work with hazardous materials and heavy machinery safely.
Working Conditions:
•Typical hours are 8-10 with occasional overtime as needed.
•Work will be performed on job sites, in shops, and at outdoor locations.
•Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety boots, gloves, and eye protection.
