JOB TITLE: Manager Project Controls REQUISITION: DEV0006 DEPARTMENT: Generation Development LOCATION: Kansas City, MO, Topeka, KS or Wichita, KS PAY GRADE: 16C PAY RANGE: $107,900 – 143,800

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with additional work hours as required.

Summary of Primary Duties:

The Project Controls team’s primary objective is to support the Generation Development team in the planning and execution of large renewable and conventional generation construction projects. Under general direction of the Director Project Management & Controls, the successful candidate in this key role will be responsible for project controls and reporting for renewable and conventional generation projects. The team provides critical, decision-making information that ensures projects deliver on time and on budget meeting defined goals. The Team does this by closely collaborating with other functional teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure baseline schedules and cost reports accurately represent the project and provide cost/schedule monitoring and projections throughout the life of the project. Additional responsibilities include the following:


Summary of Primary Responsibilities:

- Oversee the process to develop, maintain and report project cost information including budgets, commitments, expenditure, forecast and variance on costs. Work with team to incorporate evolving technologies and efficiencies into the process.

- Oversee the process to establish project baseline schedules from our contractors, with defined milestones and monitoring/updating of project schedules.

- Direct, lead, and mentor the Project Controls team to ensure that staff understands what is expected of them, has necessary access to resources, and possesses the skills to execute the requirements.

- Confirm progress measurement, including the ability to draw conclusions from the available data, and initiate progress reporting.

- Initiate and confirm periodic reporting, including monthly and quarterly regulatory and executive level reporting, and ensure consistent and accurate content, format, and frequency.

- Actively evaluate project cost and schedule performance to identify potential risk areas, validate forecasts, and communicate those quickly to key stakeholders.

- Oversee the collaboration with key stakeholders to identify project risks and mitigations.

- Support regulatory and internal data requests, testimony, and information summaries for regulatory agencies and others.

- Present information summaries and conclusions, project performance, risks and mitigations, and other relevant information to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders.

- Other work as needed in support of successful project delivery.


Education and Experience Requirements:

- A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, finance, accounting or relevant work experience.

- Must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years leadership experience and 8 years experience on complex projects and experience in a project environment with knowledge of estimating, cost control, planning, and scheduling. Experience in new generation construction projects from inception to close out is preferred.

- Previous leadership history must demonstrate achieving business results while engaging and developing employees.

- Requires comprehensive skills in personal computing applications, and preferred knowledge of financial system applications and project scheduling software.

- Ability to work under pressure and is deliverable driven.

- Broad business acumen including an understanding of regulatory construct and associated accounting treatment, risk assessment and mitigation.

- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey project information to stakeholders.

- Must demonstrate organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, take direction, and provide direction to others ensuring the quality of deliverables.

- Comprehensive understanding of work breakdown structure and project coding structures and ability to implement cost management work processes on projects.

- Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with tight timelines and aggressive goals.

- Must have a reputation of having a positive attitude and being an excellent teammate.

- Proven results of working safely and leading a safety minded culture.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:

Office and field working conditions. May require work beyond normal hours and occasional overnight travel. Must have a satisfactory work record including excellent attendance.
