Position Overview
Equinox Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Tank Specialist to join our Mechanical Engineering team in Calgary. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, specification, evaluation, modification and repair of storage tanks, and related mechanical systems across a variety of oil & gas and industrial projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, familiarity with industry codes, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and efficient designs.
- Design and specify atmospheric and pressurized storage tanks in accordance with API 650, API 620, and API 653 standards.
- Technical expert for modification and repairs to atmospheric and pressurized storage tanks in accordance with API 653, API 575 and related standards.
- Develop mechanical datasheets, design calculations, and fabrication details.
- Review vendor drawings, perform technical bid evaluations, and support procurement activities.
- Ensure mechanical designs comply with project requirements, client specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate with process, piping, structural, and project teams to ensure design integration and constructability.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, inspection, installation, and commissioning.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Equinox’s mechanical standards and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in the design and specification, repair and modification of storage tanks within oil & gas or industrial projects.- Strong understanding of applicable design codes (API 650, 620, 653, 579, ASME Section VIII, CSA B51).
- Familiarity with adjacent design codes (API 575, 651, 652, 625, 2000, 2350, 2610) is an asset.
- Proficiency with design software such as COMPRESS, PV Elite, or equivalent.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, or eligibility to obtain.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
