BLOC Resources is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Designer – Piping SR 3 to support complex engineering projects within power generation and heavy industrial environments. This senior-level role is responsible for leading piping design efforts across retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in piping system design, 3D modeling, and multi-discipline coordination, with the ability to lead technical teams and deliver high-quality engineering solutions with minimal supervision.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping designs that support large-scale infrastructure and energy projects.
- Develop detailed 3D piping and equipment designs for retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects
- Produce 2D orthographic and isometric drawings, P&IDs, pipe support designs, and general arrangement drawings
- Create and maintain 3D models for piping systems and associated equipment layouts
- Perform piping system layout, routing, and design optimization to ensure efficiency and constructability
- Support sizing and selection of piping components, valves, and materials
- Lead multi-discipline design teams across complex projects
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and team members
- Review and validate design deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Conduct field walkdowns to gather data and verify existing conditions
- Support construction teams by addressing design issues, clarifications, and field changes
- Assist with installation planning and constructability reviews
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and support procurement processes
- Review and check design drawings, calculations, and technical documents
- Develop and review general arrangement drawings and system layouts
- Ensure all deliverables meet project standards, timelines, and quality expectations
- Apply knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, etc.)
- Ensure all designs meet safety, regulatory, and company requirements
- Maintain adherence to quality assurance and engineering best practices
- 20+ years of experience in mechanical piping design within:
- Heavy industrial environments (oil & gas, chemical, manufacturing, etc.)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and extensive experience will be considered
- Advanced proficiency in 3D piping design and modeling tools
- Experience with AutoPLANT, AVEVA, or similar design platforms preferred
- Strong knowledge of piping system design principles for industrial facilities
- Experience with both new construction and retrofit projects
- Ability to develop and review general arrangements and system layouts
- Experience preparing material take-offs and supporting procurement efforts
- Proven ability to lead multi-discipline teams on large, complex projects
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to identify design issues and implement effective solutions
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, contractors, and vendors
- Hybrid work environment (in-office and remote flexibility)
- Occasional field visits and site walkdowns required
