About The Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer supports the specification, design, and integration of modular power solutions including E-Houses (modular electrical buildings), Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), and Medium Voltage/Low Voltage skids for mission-critical applications. In this role you will work alongside senior engineers to develop mechanical layouts, HVAC/ventilation concepts, equipment integration details, and manufacturing-ready documentation. You will be exposed to complete modular electrical-room systems that may include switchboards, ATS, UPS, battery rooms, HVAC, fire detection/suppression interfaces, and lithium-ion battery-related mechanical features.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update 2D/3D mechanical layouts for E-Houses and skid-mounted modules (equipment placement, access clearances, openings, penetrations).
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical equipment (switchboards, transformers, UPS, batteries, cable trays, conduit entry, grounding interfaces).
- Assist with heat load estimates and HVAC sizing support (collect equipment heat loads, document assumptions, support calculations).
- Lay out HVAC equipment, ducting/air distribution components, louvers, and ventilation paths to meet temperature and air quality requirements.
- Support mechanical documentation packages including general arrangement drawings, installation details, and bill-of-material inputs.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure maintainability, safe access/egress, and mechanical-code considerations are addressed.
- Respond to internal shop questions (RFIs) and update drawings as designs evolve through fabrication.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) preparation (checklists, walkdowns) and occasional site activities under supervision.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline).
- Minimum of 2 years of mechanical design experience (internships/co-ops in industrial equipment, modular buildings, HVAC, or fabrication are highly valued).
- Working knowledge of basic engineering fundamentals (heat transfer, airflow, mechanical layouts, materials).
- Ability to produce clear 3D CAD drawings using SolidWorks.
- Exposure to modular E-Houses, electrical rooms, data center power modules, or skid-mounted industrial equipment.
- Basic familiarity with HVAC equipment selection concepts and equipment-room environmental control.
- Coursework or project exposure related to fire protection, life safety systems, or building codes.
- Experience reading equipment submittals and coordinating vendor data into drawings.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) credential or intent to pursue.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
