Full-time Design/Mechanical Engineer II in Albany, Oregon
SunWize Power & Battery delivers rugged, reliable, off-grid and hybrid power systems that keep critical infrastructure running no matter the environment. We’re growing, and we’re looking for a Design/Mechanical Engineer II who’s excited to design equipment that thrives in the field, not just in the CAD model. If you’re an early-career mechanical engineer who loves system integration, thrives in cross-disciplinary design, and wants to develop real-world power solutions used across telecom, transportation, security, and remote infrastructure, this is your next step.
- Develop mechanical assemblies and enclosures for integrated solar, battery, control, and communication systems.
- Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and layouts for sheet metal, machined parts, wiring harnesses, mounting hardware, and environmental protection features.
- Ensure proper interfaces, manufacturability, serviceability, and robust structural/thermal performance.
- Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to deliver cohesive, field-ready designs.
- Perform tolerance analysis, fit checks, trade studies, and design reviews.
- Support structural, vibration, ingress protection, and thermal testing.
- Assist in prototyping troubleshooting, production support, and field-issue root cause analysis.
- Help develop test plans and documentation to validate mechanical requirements.
- Produce clear and detailed documentation: drawings, BOMs, exploded views, installation guides, and configuration records.
- Participate in Lean/quality initiatives to enhance design consistency, speed, and manufacturability.
- Support development of mechanical design standards and best practices.
- Work with Purchasing to coordinate with vendors and track deliverables.
- Develop systems engineering capabilities: requirements traceability, system block diagrams, verification and validation planning, configuration management, and change control.
- Engage in cross-disciplinary design reviews, internal training, and customer/vendor meetings.
- Contribute to proposals and cost estimates for integrated system solutions.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
- 1–3 years of experience in mechanical design, electromechanical systems, or product development (internships/co-ops included!).
- Proficiency in Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD tools.
- Familiarity with sheet metal design, machining, enclosure design, and manufacturing methods.
- Understanding of thermal management, mechanical integration, and product packaging.
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
This role is designed to grow with you. As you gain experience, you’ll shift from supporting component-level design to helping lead new product development, shaping next-generation SunWize power and energy platforms.
