The basic function of the mechanic is to diagnose and repair malfunctions by disassembling, repairing/rebuilding and reassembling machines, components, engines, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and electrical apparatus.
The principle responsibilities and duties of this position shall consist of, but not limited to the following:
- Responsible for general maintenance such as changing oil, fuel and air filters.
- Performs engine overhauls, repairs, and tune-ups.
- Must have knowledge to maintain and repair and/or rebuild cranes, winches, gear boxes, air compressors.
- Must have knowledge of pump repairs and how to ballast systems, portable water systems, salt water systems, fuel systems and air systems.
- Must understand electrical generator operation and maintenance, electric motor maintenance, trouble shooting and change out, AC lighting systems, general alarm systems, AC & DC engine and crane alarm systems.
- Maintain daily engine and preventative maintenance records, order parts and supplies to maintain equipment.
- Must be able to read and understand instruction manuals.
