The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District has a position open for a Mechanic. The desired candidate will have Level III capabilities, being proficient at fabricating parts to make repairs necessary to support Central Irrigation operations. At a minimum , applicants should be able to perform the essential job functions of a Mechanic Level II. Applications available at the Holdrege District office.
Level I - Responsible for repair and maintenance of District automobiles, trucks and other gasoline engines, including light and medium equipment. Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for repair or replacement of major component parts or complete units.
Level II - In addition, will perform and be responsible for repair and maintenance of diesel engines and heavy construction equipment. Perform long-range planning of major repair and overhaul scheduling of engines.
Level III – In addition, will perform and be responsible for highly technical metal repair, fabrication, refurbishment, fabrication of parts and repair of equipment or structures as directed.
· Must be capable of performing repairs and major overhaul of small and large gasoline combustion engines
· Knowledge of fuel injectors, engine wiring, hydraulic systems, power trains, test equipment, parts catalogues, manuals and schematic drawings
· Knowledge of gas, electric and wire welding and brazing techniques
· Must be capable of performing repairs and major overhaul of diesel engines, turbo-chargers and associated equipment.
· Understand and perform electronic diagnosis of District equipment
· Be proficient in and use MS Office products and internet search programs in maintenance record keeping and assisting procuring cost effective repair parts and services.
· Performs highly technical repairs and fabricates parts for District equipment or structures.
· Capable in the use of a wide variety of diagnostic, manufacturing and fabrication tools in the repair and maintenance of District equipment and structures.
· Possesses highly technical skills in metal working equipment and welders and utilizes it in the repair and maintenance of District equipment and structures.
· Operate engine test equipment and tools, repair District combustion engines and field equipment
· Operate welders, drills, grinders, steam and jet cleaners, etc.
· Evaluate and analyze reading of test equipment and results of oil sampling/testing program
· Maintain repair records on all District equipment
· Assist in and/or purchase parts and prepare local purchase orders; make minor purchases
· Responsible for the work performance of other personnel assisting in the work and of safety and housekeeping around the shop
· Understanding of diesel motors, turbo chargers and heavy construction equipment repair and maintenance
· Use computer systems to evaluate motors, research and recommend part ordering and maintain maintenance records
· Possess various welding or metal fabrication certifications or have equivalent experience/capabilities
· Operate metal lathes, drills, presses and grinders.
· Work in the field subject to adverse weather and other hazards
