Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Class B CDL with no SP endorsement required.
Skills
General knowledge of the mechanics of internal combustion engines, transmissions, drive trains, brake systems, and ignition systems. Working skills in the use of automotive equipment and tools required. Ability to assign and supervise shop technicians required. Ability to perform such functions as tune-ups, brake jobs, and exhaust system repairs required.
Minimum of five years’ experience as a mechanic performing basic mechanical duties such as engine tune-ups and brake repairs required.
Keep the school system’s transportation equipment in such a state of operating excellence so as to minimize problems or interpretations to the overall program.
1. Schedule buses for inspection on a twenty (20) day cycle.
2. Schedule State Mandated Inspections.
3. Assign and supervise work on buses/fleet vehicles.
4. Maintain adequate fuel supply.
5. Maintain fleet in accordance with state law.
6. Perform mechanical repair and maintenance work on transportation equipment as needed.
7. Respond to bus breakdowns during work hours and after hours and ensure that needed repairs are completed.
8. Work with distributors.
9. Maintain bus records per state requirements.
10. Maintain shop cleanliness on a daily basis.
11. Maintain shop tools and equipment.
12. Supervise and evaluate performance of mechanics.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands to feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. In case of emergency the employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
