Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to support our weld and fabrication operations at our Topeka and Manhattan facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, improving productivity and increase quality in weld and fabrication operations. This position will ensure compliance with safety and industry standards while working closely with the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement welding processes, and procedures for new and existing products.
•Design and improve manufacturing workflows to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and meet production goals.
•Collaborate with design and quality engineers to ensure manufacturability and compliance with customer specifications.
•Purchase or design appropriate welding equipment, jigs, and fixtures for production.
•Support root cause analysis and corrective action for weld defects and quality issues.
•Work closely with the Weld Shop Manager to monitor production data and metrics to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.
•Develop and maintain documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
•Train and support welders on new technologies, tools, and best practices.
•Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety and environmental regulations.
•Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing.
+ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferred or 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing or a weld shop environment (or equivalent hands-on experience).
+ Strong knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, and robotic welding.
+ Familiarity with weld symbols, AWS standards, and quality inspection techniques.
+ Proficiency in CAD software (SolidEdge, AutoCAD, etc.) and manufacturing ERP systems.
+ Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
+ Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
•Preferred Qualifications:
+ Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar certification.
+ Experience with robotic welding programming and automation.
+ Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
