Position Purpose
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with all aspects for manufacturability of components and assemblies. This involves overseeing the quality, efficiency, and safety of the current manufacturing machines and methods as well as newly developed products. You are responsible for development of new machines/methods for continuous improvement on current processes to and execution of capital investments in the machining departments. You may work with internal customers and/or external vendors in providing process knowledge and driving improvements in safety, quality, and costs. You will work directly with Operations, Quality, Procurement, and other departments on Corrective Action Requests and Vendor Corrective Action Requests.
Position Duties•Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers.
•Develop and maintain system routers, work instructions (Standard Operating Procedures), manufacturing tooling, and fixtures.
•Support assembly, testing, and CMM Inspection areas in addition to machining.
•Support hands-on training of new employees.
•Develop and support machine programming.
•Approve and process Engineering Change Requests to update applicable manufacturing processes.
•Develop new manufacturing equipment and processes as part of new product introduction or continuous improvement plans to improve safety, quality, cycle times, and costs.
•Process Manufacturing Improvement Change Requests and validate changes by using internal First Article Inspection process on newly developed or recently modified programs or equipment.
•Provide input and direction on Root Cause Analysis for Corrective Action Requests and Vendor Corrective Action Requests.
•Drive Corrective and Preventative actions to improve quality and yield of processes.
•Periodic process audits for internal customers and external vendors to monitor process controls.
•Research and purchase new manufacturing technology.
•Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
Required Qualifications
•BS in Engineering Technology or the equivalent in practical experience
•5 or more years of technical knowledge; manufacturing knowledge of flow meters or measurement equipment is a plus.
•Experience with CNC machine programming and fixture design.
•GibbsCAM and Solid Works (or equivalent) software experience is preferred.
•Ability to read and write the program code to perform machining operations (rough and finish cutting, turning, drilling, tapping, threading, etc.) to produce the required components on multi-axis machining centers.
•Fanuc Controls experience
Preferred Qualifications
•PCDMIS CMM software experience is preferred
•Strong problem-solving skills.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Must be able to communicate with many different areas of the company. Will work with HSE, operations, product management, engineering, quality, and procurement.
•Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn about new processes with very little information provided.
•Training in Quality methods and tools a plus.
•Training in Continuous Improvement Principles (Lean, Six Sigma, etc) is a plus.
Work Environment
•Work is primarily performed in a shop environment around CNC equipment and other heavy machinery. Other work is performed in an office environment at a desk on a computer.
Physical Demands
•Requires occasional lifting to 35 pounds and possible use of hand tools.
•Employee may be required to stand for long periods of time, kneel, and crouch.
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
•Office environment could include long periods of sitting or standing with use of computer.
