The candidate for this position is a senior quality professional with specialized knowledge of Quality management, Quality Assurance, Quality control, and Technical Inspections. The Technical Services Manager shall ensure that competence, service levels, resource availability, and Safety are maintained, and technical issues are resolved promptly.
Minimum Qualifications:
•15 years of experience in quality management, inspection, corrosion engineering, materials engineering, or metallurgical engineering, with at least five years in a leadership or management role
•Hold relevant certifications such as API 510, API 570, API 571, API581, ABSA In-Service Inspector Certification, or National Board Certification, with a P.Eng designation considered an asset
•Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to consult and collaborate effectively with colleagues, regulatory bodies, and industry networks to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement
•Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing best practices
•Proven experience in managing and developing high-performing teams, with strong leadership and organizational abilities
•Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, with a solid understanding of inspection practices, technologies, and service delivery principles
•Proficiency in technical documentation and desktop applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to support effective communication and reporting
•Experience in budgeting and resource management, as well as vendor management, to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations
Key Responsibilities:
•Lead, mentor, and manage the MCI inspection team for Upgrading and Utilities, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement while ensuring that team members are equipped to meet evolving business needs
•Oversee the installation, maintenance, and ongoing support of OEMS MES Standards and Best Practices, technical inspection systems and processes, ensuring that all equipment and procedures are reliable, effective, and compliant with industry standards
•Ensure the availability, reliability, and competence of inspection personnel by coordinating staffing, training, and development initiatives that support both current and future operational requirements
•Collaborate closely with other departments to assess their technical inspection needs, providing expert guidance and developing tailored solutions that align with organizational objectives
•Develop, implement, and continuously improve technical inspection service strategies, ensuring that best practices are adopted and that the team remains at the forefront of industry advancements
•Manage budgets and resources related to technical inspection services, including budgeting and vendor management, to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations
•Monitor, evaluate, and report on system and team performance, using data-driven insights to drive improvements and ensure compliance with Suncor policies and industry regulations
•Resolve technical inspection issues promptly, providing expert support to Production Units and other stakeholders to minimize downtime and maintain operational integrity
•Train, mentor, and onboard new team members, supporting their professional growth and ensuring that the team maintains a high level of technical competence
•Conduct regular team meetings and 1:1 to communicate objectives, share updates, and reinforce best practices, ensuring that all team members are aligned with organizational goals
•Evaluate and recommend new inspection technologies and methodologies, driving innovation and enhancing the quality and efficiency of inspection services
•Ensure customer satisfaction with technical inspection services by maintaining proactive communication, addressing concerns promptly, and delivering consistent, high-quality results
Location and Other Key Details
•You will work out of our Syncrude Mildred Lake/Aurora location in Fort McMurray
•Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
•Our Inspection roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will be based years of experience and scope of work
•If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided
