Reporting to the VP, Asset Management & Distribution Operations the Manager, Stations & Automation will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company's energy distribution stations and automation systems. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background, exceptional project management skills, and a commitment to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our energy distribution infrastructure.
Duties & Responsibilities
Health and Safety
•Provides direction and supervision of health and safety policies to ensure the front-line staff operate in a safe environment.
•Promotes safety, participating in safety meetings, inspections, meetings, instructions and training as required.
•Enforces all applicable safety standards including the Company’s Health and Safety program.
Strategic Leadership:
•Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the Elexicon's energy distribution stations and automation systems.
•Provide visionary leadership to the Stations & Automation team, fostering a culture of innovation, safety, and operational excellence.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align station and automation initiatives with overall business objectives.
Project Management:
•Oversee the planning and execution of station construction, upgrades, and automation projects.
•Ensure projects are completed within scope, on time, and within budget.
•Identify and mitigate potential risks to project success and capital/maintenance program delivery.
•Develop and enhance a balanced scorecard / Key Performance India (KPIs) for the team.
Technical Expertise:
•Stay abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements in energy distribution, automation, and control systems.
•Provide technical guidance to the team and contribute to the development of engineering standards.
Regulatory Compliance:
•Ensure that all stations and automation systems comply with relevant industry regulations, codes, and standards.
•Collaborate with regulatory bodies to address compliance requirements and advocate for the company's interests.
Maintenance and Reliability:
•Collaborate with the Asset Planning & System Engineering team to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for stations and automation systems.
•Analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
Team Development:
•Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
•Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages professional growth and development.
Key Skills & Qualifications
•Proven track record of successful project management and implementation of automation systems.
•Strong knowledge of energy distribution regulations, codes, and standards.
•Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments and strong commitment to team building.
•Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of professionals.
•Thorough knowledge of advanced mathematics including calculus, analytical trigonometry (vector analysis) and logarithms in the study and application of electrical theory.
•Requires sound knowledge of the theories, principles and practices and operating characteristics of power and distribution equipment and systems.
•Thorough knowledge of specialized relay protections and P&C schemes.
•Thorough knowledge of Instrument transformers, control circuitry, protective relay selection and implementation, logic design, DC battery systems, and electrical drawings.
•Thorough knowledge of Communications schemes, including SCADA interface to Remote Terminal Units (RTU), licensed and unlicensed UHF Radio networks, leased digital cell networks and multi-mode/ single-mode fiber optic networks and equipment.
•Thorough knowledge of various communication protocols and various engineering software.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), computer (PC) literacy, and a working knowledge of Computer Assisted Design (CAD) systems.
•Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
Minimum Requirements
•3-year post-secondary diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology
•O.A.C.E.T.T. designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist in the Province of Ontario in the Electrical discipline is preferred.
•MEARIE Journeyperson Sub-Station Electrician Certificate
•Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an electrical utility environment with direct technical experience with substations
•Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
•Utility Work Protection Code certified.
•Valid G Driver’s License.
