Job Summary
The Automation Manager leads and manages the Automation team so successful levels of sales, profitability, and inventories are attained. Maintains and enhances business relationships with automation vendors. Leads, advises, and actively participates in the market planning, strategizing, implementation, and management. Prepares and implements short-term objectives and action plans to support company strategies, sales forecasting, proposal coordination, key customer strategy planning, presentations, financial projections, cross market strategies, and other measurement tools. Coordinates the development of new supply chain solutions, systems, technology, methods, ideas, and procedures to improve sales, profits, efficiencies, automation, service, and quality within a specific market.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
•Confer with customers and engineers to assess needs and to determine requirements.
•Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products and services to customers and prospective customers.
•Sell products requiring extensive technical expertise and support for installation and use.
•Coordinate the development of new supply chain solutions, systems, technology, methods, ideas, and procedures to improve sales, profits, efficiencies, automation, service, and quality within a specific market.
•Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders from vendors and customers.
•Maintain and enhance our business relationship with automation vendors in the area of primary responsibility (APR).
•Coordinate management contacts, stay abreast of market trends in our trade area and industry, and monitor competitive product and price situations.
•Evaluate manufacture lines that complement our customer offering and provide recommendations to the sales and marketing managers.
•Develop reporting to review market potential and identify new target accounts.
•Utilize the following tools and technologies: Integrate, Architecture Builder, and ProposalWorks.
•Position requires domestic travel up to 40% as needed and customary for the occupation.
•Supervise 5 subordinates with the following titles: Automation Supervisor-Power, Automation Supervisor-Smart Components, Automation Supervisor-Services, Automation Supervisor-Software & Control, and Automation Supervisor-Business Development.
Non-essential Functions
•Assists with the planning and coordinating of the annual sales incentive programs.
•Assists with establishing annual branch/regional expense and sales budgets/goals.
•Implements customer satisfaction surveys.
•Coordinates with the Customer Financial Services staff to resolve key customer-billing problems.
•Continuously looks for systems, methods, and ideas to improve the processes, functions, and performance of the sales areas.
•Evaluates and manages regions demo equipment and makes suggestions for new products in specified product areas.
•Performs product updates and new product launches for branches and customers as required.
•Attends and assists with sales meetings, trade shows, and training programs as needed.
•Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
•The position requires a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or closely related field.
•The qualified candidate must have at least 2 years (24 months) of experience in a project manager position or closely related occupation.
•The qualified candidate must also have at least 2 years (24 months) of experience with all of the following: (a) Developing budgets, financial planning and strategy; (b) Preparing and Implementing objectives and action plans; (c) Establishing and maintaining plans for the success of projects including scope, schedule, cash-flow, budget, and client satisfaction; (d) Evaluating project specifications, drawing, and related documents to understand project intentions; (e) Tracking project resources and progress, documenting any events impacting schedule, scope, and overall efficiency; (f) Utilizing technical engineering expertise to support automation projects; and (g) Working with the following tools/technologies: Integrate, Architecture Builder, and ProposalWorks.
