National Grid is hiring a Manager – Project & Program Management NY - Electric for our Capital Delivery department in Albany, NY.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the leading and development of a team of project managers. As the Manager of the team, will be responsible for delivery and management of Electric Capital Projects at a portfolio level to ensure they are developed in a least cost, fit for purpose manner to most efficiently support the growing needs of the rapidly changing energy sector. Interface with leadership across transmission, substation, and distribution lines of business with multiple cross functional teams. Engage key stakeholders to ensure adherence to the Capital Delivery process, highest standards of health, safety, environmental, security and quality.


Key Accountabilities

- Responsible for overseeing the team’s overall project performance including monitoring their projects compliance with scope, schedule, budget, and safety metrics.

- Manage Electrical Capital Projects budget at a jurisdictional level. Utilize knowledge of team’s individual projects cost and schedule to assist in balancing jurisdictional budget objectives between all stakeholder portfolios at Project Control Meetings and during forecasting cycle.

- Maintain internal and external project staffing to ensure full team representation of all complex projects.

- Conduct regular one on one meetings, formal quarterly reviews and final end of year performance reviews with team members.

- Hold regular team meetings and provide training opportunities for team members.

- Hiring, orientating, training, mentoring and developing of project management team.

- Ensure team maintains reporting cadence for baseline variances, forecasts, schedules and other stakeholder information requests.

- Ensure team maintains compliance with approved delegation of authority (DoA) limits.

- Interface directly with customers and internal/external stakeholders to report progress, costs, schedule, and risks.

- Conduct regular one on one meetings as well as group meetings with key internal/external stakeholders.

- Lead capital efficiency cost reduction efforts by assisting reviews of projects, utilizing opportunity logs and championing effort with the team.

- Maintain knowledge of Capital Delivery process, organizational structure, and other discipline processes.

- Review, approve and accept Capital Delivery process documents including Sanction Papers, Project Execution Plans and Gate Checklists.

- Facilitate movement and resolution of interdisciplinary process issues.

- Support team in solving difficult project issues, including escalating high risk items through appropriate channels.

- Facilitates and encourages the introduction of new technologies and innovative solutions to improve the delivery of Electric capital projects safely, on time, and in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.


Qualifications

- 7+ years experience in electric operations engineering, project management, utility construction or equivalent relevant experience.

- A Bachelor’s degree required in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience in all aspects of utility construction operations. Master’s degree in engineering discipline, MBA or relevant equivalent preferred.

- Strong grasp of National Grid Organization Structure and Capital Delivery Process or similar matrix organizational structures and processes.

- Preference given to candidates with a Professional Engineering license and/or Certified Project Management Professional.

- Considerable proven experience in direct project and design including milestone management, resourcing, affordability, risk management, reporting and possess team leadership and influencing skills. *At least 3 years of managing direct reports required.

- Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative, integrity and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.

- Deep knowledge of electrical system operations, engineering, environmental, engineering economics, and familiarity with legal, purchasing, and utility accounting regulations.

- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints. Bottom-line oriented, budget conscious, metric/measurement driven.

- Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.

- Strong skills in: electrical engineering design, project management, stakeholder engagement, presentation, construction management, interpersonal, oral & written communication, critical analysis and capable of leading and influencing teams, and gaining support and commitment from a wider operational group.

- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.

Salary: $156,000.00 - $183,000.00 USD annually
