The
Manager of Survey
is responsible for overseeing all survey operations related to
midstream oil & gas pipelines and facilities projects
, ensuring accurate, high-quality, and efficient survey services. This role involves managing field and office survey teams, implementing best practices, maintaining compliance with industry standards, and supporting engineering and construction activities. Additionally, the Manager of Survey will play a key role in business development, client relations, and ensuring the profitability of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Survey Operations & Project Execution:
•Oversee and manage daily survey operations.
•Ensure the accurate collection of topographic, boundary, and as-built survey data for pipeline and facilities projects.
•Develop and enforce best practices, quality control measures, and safety protocols.
•Maintain compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
•Maintain survey trucks and equipment, company owned and rentals.
•Ensure survey equipment is kept in working order along with proper calibrations.
Team Leadership & Development:

•Recruit, train, and develop personnel to build a high-performing team.
•Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Project Support & Coordination:

•Review and approve survey deliverables, including
pipeline alignment sheets, ROW plats, construction staking, and pipeline as-builts
.
•Ensure coordination between survey teams and project managers and/or engineering leads to meet project schedules and client expectations.
Business Development & Client Relations:
•Establish and maintain relationships with existing and new clients in the
oil & gas sector
.
•Prepare proposals, budgets, and schedules for survey projects.
•Provide technical expertise and solutions to clients' survey needs.
Financial & Strategic Management:
•Monitor department budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation.
•Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance profitability.
•Support company leadership in strategic planning and market expansion for survey services.
Qualifications and Requirements:
•Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) license required in Texas
•Preferred Professional Land Surveyor licenses in Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico or the ability to acquire those states within a year of employment
•5–10 years in land surveying, with extensive experience in midstream pipeline and facilities projects
•Expertise in pipeline route surveys and construction staking/as-builts, ROW plats, and pipeline facility site development
•Preferred experience in management or project management role
•Must be located in commutable distance to Houston, Texas, United States
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
•Proficiency in survey software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center
•Strong knowledge base on the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
•Strong knowledge of GPS, LiDAR, and remote sensing technologies
•Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
•Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently
•Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
•Ability to travel to project sites overnight up to 25% of the time
•Capable of working in various weather conditions and terrains
•Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking long distances, carrying equipment, and standing for extended periods of time
