Nishnabotna Valley REC is located in Harlan, Iowa and serves rural members in Southwest part of the state. Although we reach into six counties in Iowa (Shelby, Cass, Pottawattamie, Harrison, Audubon, and Crawford), we average only 2.6 members per mile of line in our service territory.
As the Manager of Operations, you will be responsible for:
- supervising the construction and maintenance of the distribution facilities of the Cooperative in conformity with established standards.
- Actively promotes a workplace culture of safety along with the Cooperatives vision, mission, and values
- Plays an active role completing job-site observations on work in progress to promote a culture of Safety in the cooperative’s operations.
- Facilitates a high standard of morale among the employees of the department by the creation and use of team spirit and enthusiasm throughout the department and by determining the employees’ attitudes on organizational goals.
- Supervise day to day operations, i.e., line foremen, warehouseman, mechanic, operations assistant, construction and maintenance contractors.
- Annually works collaboratively with engineering to craft the budget recommendations for line operations maintenance and new to replace old projects, including but not limited to underground, overhead, and substation projects.
- Develop recommendations for the purchase and replacement of equipment and establish adequate maintenance and service schedules.
- Resolves member complaints referred to him/her regarding continuity of service, line changes, and right-of-way, referring to those complaints he/she is unable to resolve to the V.P. of Operations
- Leads in supervision and dispatching during emergencies and is available for weekend supervisory direction as needed.
- Oversee the energizing or de-energizing of lines and determines compliance with all safety precautions and regulations when opening and closing energized lines during storm events.
- Helps develop long-range plans for construction programs, personnel, facilities, equipment, and supplies for construction, operations, maintenance, and service of the cooperative.
- Ensures that contacts are made with all utilities for facility locations before crews are dispatched to the job sites.
- Responsible for being administrator of Iowa One Call
- Identifies and recommends training programs for personnel under his/her supervision to assure that they are trained to work effectively.
- Appraise periodically the performance of personnel assigned to his/her supervision, counseling with employees as necessary.
- Assist in the investigation into on-the-job accidents as requested by the Director of Safety.
- Receives and analyzes service interruption reports and voltage complaints. Recommends changes to correct conditions in system design when appropriate. Monitor’s outage records and evaluates the annual summaries for planning of system maintenance.
- Collaborates with Business Development in the development, and delivery of large commercial and large residential member (Key Accounts) marketing programs, demand-side energy services and conservation programs.
- Oversee the activities of NVREC energy services personnel including the education and community relations within these areas. Develop programs and procedures to promote efficient use of electrical energy and service to all members. Promote an understanding of and credibility for the cooperative's role in the business community with members, team members, and the public.
- Supervise, train and support NVREC staking personnel in all areas related to engineering and facilities design.
