About This Job

Job Summary

The Manager, Membership will play an integral role on the Membership and Executive Office teams by serving as a key relationship manager for API’s existing and prospective SST members, communicating API’s value, reach and influences across channels and mediums, and expanding bandwidth for key cross-organizational projects and initiatives. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional value to members by supporting them in API’s programs, policy initiatives, and advocacy efforts, while also ensuring the accuracy and strategic use of membership data to inform decision-making. The candidate should be entrepreneurial, a self-starter who thrives in team environments and a problem-solver who takes initiative. They should also be comfortable supporting the execution of executive-level events, managing competing priorities, and possess a strong attention to detail.

The Membership team works across API, regularly interfacing with Policy, Economics and Regulatory Affairs, Global Industry Services, Government Affairs, and Public Affairs, to drive value for our members and increase collaboration across the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to represent the oil and natural industry, interest in public policy, advocacy campaigns and other member-facing projects, and a keen ability to contribute to organizational-wide goals through project ownership and relationship-building.

API and its nearly 600 members represent all segments of America’s oil and natural gas industry, which supports more than 11 million U.S. jobs and is backed by a growing grassroots movement of millions of Americans.

- Support strategies and initiatives that connect members with opportunities to engage with relevant API programs, advocacy campaigns, and policy initiatives.

Research, Strategy, and Communications

- Effectively communicate API’s value proposition to current and prospective members, tailoring messaging for executives, technical staff, and other stakeholders while ensuring alignment with the organization’s advocacy and policy priorities. This includes the President and CEO’s routine and ad hoc communications to members.

- Analyze membership engagement metrics to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for value enhancement.

- Develop executive-level briefing materials, reports, and correspondence that synthesize industry developments and member perspectives.

- Create and/or assist with development and modification of membership-related presentation materials, internal reporting processes, and informational materials.

- Support the management of API’s member communications strategy, including executive communications, annual reports and other member lifecycle communication campaigns.

- Track and analyze industry news, trends, and policy developments relevant to the U.S. oil and gas industry to inform membership outreach strategies.

Cross-Organizational Support

- Work collaboratively across API to drive an enterprise-wide membership approach and respond to member inquiries in a timely manner.

- Provide support to the planning, preparation and execution of executive-level events, including API Board and Executive Committee meetings, Annual Meeting, and other strategic gatherings.

- Serve as primary relationship manager for API Chapters.

- Provide operational and planning support for internal and external cross-organizational activities such as API’s State of American Energy event, educational webinars for members and industry professionals, and external events and conferences, as needed.
