Job Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairing, troubleshooting & maintaining mechanical equipment, machinery & tools. Tasks include routine maintenance, preventive maintenance & scheduled repairs to various types of equipment, including pumps, motors, rectifiers, hydraulic equipment, cranes, lathes, forklifts & some power tools. Techs inspect, analysis, diagnose & troubleshoot equipment & machinery to make necessary repairs & replace parts as needed. This position requires skills in the use of various types of tools/equipment i.e., drill presses, electric band saw, pedestal grinders, and impact power tools.
- Respond promptly in emergency situations, notify appropriate personnel, and strictly follow all safety policies and procedures. Use appropriate PPE for all work operations.
- Disassemble machines, equipment, or hydraulic pumps to remove and replace defective or malfunctioning parts.
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance on buildings, machines, pumps, rectifiers, cranes, hydraulic systems, etc.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and repair manuals to locate issues and replace parts as needed.
- Perform basic electrical work, including wiring systems, and conduct safe electrical system checks and maintenance on equipment.
- Assemble, build, or fabricate parts or equipment as needed to repair and maintain machinery and ensure continued operation.
- Use measuring instruments and electronic testing devices to assess and perform necessary repairs on equipment.
- Assist with creating maintenance schedules, conducting inspections, and completing pre-maintenance checks to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Identify and prioritize critical repairs to return malfunctioning equipment to service as quickly as possible.
- Properly follow all “lockout/tagout” procedures when working on equipment requiring electrical disconnection.
- Demonstrate understanding of automation equipment such as sensors, switches, and valves.
- Manage inventory related to the automated systems area.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Inspect and repair mechanical systems in buildings to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Conduct maintenance on electrical systems as needed.
- Support facility budget management by ensuring competitive pricing and purchasing quality products.
- Maintain plant air and plumbing systems to ensure functionality in both general and automated areas.
- Inspect fire protection systems and alarms and arrange prompt repairs when necessary.
- Work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with external contractors to complete specialized repairs when needed.
- High school diploma and 3 – 5 years of work-related experience
- Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems
- Demonstrate experience as a maintenance technician
- Physically capable of lifting 50 pounds
- Strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods
- Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts and small hand tools
- Cleaning and maintaining common shop areas
- Communicate repair issues to affected employees
