Maintenance Supervisor - Canola Crush Plant
Position Description
Reporting to the Crush Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance and servicing of all critical equipment at the canola crush facility, including expellers, centrifuges, pumps, bucket elevators, augers, screw conveyors, and other related systems. This position ensures all equipment is properly maintained through the preventative maintenance (PM) program and supports overall plant operations by working closely with expeller operators and material handlers to ensure product quality, safety, efficiency, and compliance with environmental regulations.
This is a salaried position, scheduled Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with the expectation of being on call as needed during evenings and weekends to support plant operations and respond to urgent maintenance issues.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who is adaptable, dependable, and takes pride in stepping up wherever needed. Whether it’s performing mechanical work, assisting with operational tasks, completing documentation, or supervising others, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to get involved in all aspects of plant operations. A solid understanding of both expeller and material handler operations is essential, as the Supervisor may be called upon to fill in during emergencies. The role works closely with the Plant Manager and may be required to provide coverage in their absence.
Responsibilities:
The Plant Maintenance Supervisor has the following responsibilities:
•Reports to the Plant manager in ensuring the condition and operations of the plant equipment
•Reports any foreseen and unforeseen maintenance/breakdowns or issues that effects the production.
•Provides maintenance information on the various equipment (downtime, start-up, current conditions.)
•Follow a preventative maintenance schedule providing basic maintenance and operator care of equipment and provide timely input on maintenance needs for critical parts, etc.
•Participate in emergency response and shutdown activities.
•Ensure use of safety equipment and follow all safety and environmental SOPs, protocols and plans.
•Take charge of the preventative maintenance program with inputs schedules and repairs
•Trouble shoot various issues related to but not limited to centrifuge, pumps, expellers, dryers, screeners and screw augers.
•Perform lubrication, repairs and maintenance on equipment such as expellers, centrifuges, bucket elevators, drags, screw conveyors, pumps and other related equipment.
•Participate and conduct if required, the daily Toolbox meetings on plant schedule, goals and objectives.
•Participate in team building, training, coaching and mentoring, as required.
•Participate in and contribute to quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
•Use electronic communication tools and communicate with the plant manager in a timely manner on issues, as required.
•Submit accurate timesheets and respond positively to corrective performance management feedback.
•Positively represent Canary Biofuels Inc. in the community
•Other duties as may be assigned to maintain safety, quality and/or environmental sustainability in Canary Biofuels Inc.’s plant operations.
Qualifications – Required
•Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
•Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, may be required to lift up to 50lbs occasionally, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
•Training or experience operating heavy equipment (Front End Loader)
•Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
•Must be able to work in various weather, industrial and agricultural settings.
•Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above).
•Excellent oral and written communications and time management skills
Qualifications – Desired
•Experience in petrochemical, aggregate crushing, or agricultural processing plants.
•Experience in a production environment with a continuous improvement or quality management program
•Experience with welding, fabrication and pipe fitting
•Experience with pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems
•Experience with computerized maintenance management system
Education/Certifications
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Valid Alberta driver’s license
•Heavy Duty Mechanic/Millwright or equivalent experience
•Strong mechanical aptitude
