The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the direction and coaching of skilled-trades maintenance crews in a union environment at our Clark Plant located in Sparks, NV. This includes electrical and mechanical servicing and efficient maintenance of production machinery and equipment, physical plant, utilities and grounds in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policy and procedures. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
· Ensures that equipment is properly designed, selected, and installed based on life-cycle philosophy.
· Ensures that equipment is performing effectively and efficiently.
· Establishes and monitors programs for critical equipment analysis and condition monitoring techniques.
· Provides technical guidance for the JDE CMMS.
· Maintains and advises on the use and disposition of stock items, surplus items, and rental equipment.
· Consults with maintenance craft workers (i.e., mechanics and electricians and other maintenance personnel) on technical problems.
· Monitors shop qualifications and quality standards for outside contractors.
· Develops standards for major maintenance overhauls and shutdowns.
· Makes cost-benefit reviews of the maintenance programs.
· Provides technical guidance for the preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
· Serves as the focal point for monitoring performance indicators for maintenance management.
· Responsible for the entire maintenance function, including planning, supervising, and coordinating with engineering personnel.
· Responsible for developing scope of work, meeting with contractors, and gathering/evaluating bids for capital projects. Then writing requests for capital both budgeted and unbudgeted.
· Coordinates closely with counterparts in other in-house organizations (i.e., Operations, Purchasing, Safety & Environmental).
· Promotes proper understanding of the maintenance function to other parts of the company.
· Ensures that all supervisors, planners, clerks and technicians are properly educated and trained.
· Responsible for arranging all continuous education classes for mechanical and electrical technicians.
· Responsible for screening and hiring of all maintenance personnel.
· Takes responsibility for planning, scheduling, cost control, vacation planning, etc.
· Has responsibility for delegating assignments to the appropriate personnel.
· Responsible for monthly and quarterly forecasting of all maintenance, and mining & mobile equipment.
· Responsible for developing annual budget for maintenance.
· Responsible for continued development of TPM and full utilization of JDE to drive corporate goals.
· Responsible for the approval of purchase requisitions and A/P invoicing up to your signoff approval level.
· Responsible to maintaining and adding new equipment to JDE equipment master CMMS.
· Minimum of 5+ years’ experience managing a maintenance or engineering department within a manufacturing environment.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with CMMS or EAM systems
· Experience in dealing with budgets, forecasting and capital projects
· Solid background in Maintenance Programs, JD Edwards, Concur, Ultipro
· Engineering background preferred or 7+ years equivalent background as Maintenance Supervisor in an MSHA Surface or Underground Mine site
· Must be able to handle a number of tasks at one time and work well with a variety of personalities in an effort to achieve continuous improvement.
· Candidate must possess the physical ability to maneuver throughout the mine and the plant, ability to perform such activities such as climbing, reaching, stooping, kneeling crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling and the ability to lift approximately 40-50 lbs.
· Employee may be exposed to routine industrial health and safety hazards and will be required to use respirator, ear protections, eye protection, safety shoes, hard hat and other designated safety equipment.
· Employee maybe subject to callout, telephone calls, email and text to answer questions, provide guidance or assistance after hours, weekends and holidays.
· Ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and maintenance management experience
· Minimum of 5+ years’ experience managing a maintenance or engineering department within a manufacturing environment.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with CMMS or EAM systems
· Experience in dealing with budgets, forecasting and capital projects
· Prefer experience with PLC’s, VFD’s and process controls
· Prefer experience managing in a non-union environment
· Prefer experience using JD Edwards ERP system
· Ability to cope with multiple tasks in a manufacturing environment
· Strong leadership skills and ability to define a vision for the department
· Ability to analyze business data and determine key performance indicators
· Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to determine a course of action quickly
