The primary focus of the Lead Metallurgist is to lead the Concentrator Metallurgical and the Laboratory teams in delivering our Business Plan objectives. This will be achieved by providing support for operations metallurgical targets, good continuous improvement processes, sound project management and provision of accurate data.
Responsibilities:•Promotes and adheres to HSEC programs in alignment with Kidd Operations’ Zero Harm objective.
•Ensures all direct reports and contractors are aware of and comply with HSEC requirements.
•Actively participates in safety initiatives and contributes to the continuous improvement of HSEC programs.
•Leads and delivers assigned projects that support the Concentrator Business Plan.
•Supervises Metallurgical and Laboratory personnel to ensure safe and effective operations.
•Mentors and coaches team members, including shift Metallurgists, to build technical capability.
•Shares knowledge to foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
•Applies specialized expertise in processing technologies used at the Kidd Concentrator.
•Monitors metallurgical performance metrics and recommends corrective actions as needed.
•Acts as the site lead for chemical usage and ensures compliance with SDS protocols.
•Utilizes laboratory techniques such as sample preparation, XRF, and ICP to support operations
•Identifies and removes inefficiencies to drive process improvements
•Supports cost reduction, waste minimization, and high operational efficiency
•Trains and coaches' others in continuous improvement methodologies and tools.
Qualifications:
•Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering with 10 years’ relevant experience is an asset.
•Proficient in the use of typical metallurgical techniques such as liberation analysis, size by size analysis, grade recovery charts, etc.
•Proficient understanding of various problem-solving techniques including 3W’s, CCC’s, 5 why’s, fishbones, RCA, FMEA, etc.
•Leadership and technical skills to enable delivery of specific personal accountabilities.
•Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10-hour shifts (Kidd Operations reserves the right to modify working schedules as necessary, in accordance with applicable notice requirements and labor regulations.)
