The Lead Mechanic (Power Generation) is responsible for performing and overseeing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on power generation equipment. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership duties, including mentoring and training junior technicians. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills and leads by example to support a safe, efficient, and high-performing maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on power generation equipment, including diesel and gas generators, engines, and related systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and company standards.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and engine issues; recommend and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Lead and support daily maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.
- Mentor and train personnel, providing guidance on technical procedures, safety practices, and troubleshooting methods.
- Coordinate and schedule maintenance tasks and projects, including collaboration with electricians and controls technicians on generator synchronization, switchgear, and load bank integration.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and equipment logs.
- Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and minimal downtime.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance maintenance processes, tools, and team performance.
- Lead execution of preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring alignment with fleet uptime targets and service quality metrics.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on a wide range of equipment, including natural gas reciprocating generators, trailer-mounted gensets, switchgear panels, and air/oil filtration systems.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with diesel, gas, and turbine generators, engines, and related power generation equipment.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and system issues quickly and accurately.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, remote diagnostics, and generator telematics platforms preferred.
- Proven ability to lead a team and foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Proficient in developing and executing preventative maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime.
- Critical thinking and problem solving abilities; able to resolve issues independently, and manage multiple tasks while maintaining high standards of quality and safety, even under pressure.
- Proficient in safe operating procedures, equipment maintenance, and quality testing.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
- Represent Comanche on customer sites and is expected to communicate professionally, ensuring a positive client experience.
- Ability to travel 90 - 100% of the time to various customer and field sites.
- At least 5 years of experience in power generation, Oil and Gas industry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 1 year in a leadership role, such as team lead or supervisor, with proven experience in managing and guiding teams.
- Preferred Certifications:
- EGSA Certified Technician
- OEM Training Certifications (e.g., Waukesha, MTU, CAT)
- OSHA 10/30, H2S or other safety certifications applicable to oilfield or industrial work environments
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Driving for extended periods.
- Wearing appropriate PPE (respirator, hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat, etc.).
