We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Lead to oversee and support mechanical maintenance and reliability activities at our Ohio-based oil refinery. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring mechanical integrity, equipment availability, and safe operations of all fixed and rotating assets.
As the Mechanical Lead, you will work closely with maintenance crews, engineering, operations, and contractors to ensure the execution of high-quality, timely, and cost-effective mechanical work.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and support for mechanical maintenance activities across the refinery.
- Supervise and coordinate field work for rotating equipment, fixed equipment, piping, and pressure vessels.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to mechanical integrity standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, API, ASME), and company procedures.
- Develop and maintain mechanical maintenance plans, equipment strategies, and job packages.
- Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to prioritize and resource mechanical work efficiently.
- Support turnarounds, unit shutdowns, and emergency repair efforts as needed.
- Manage contractor crews and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and refinery policies.
- Mentor junior technicians and promote continuous improvement in maintenance practices.- 7+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an oil refinery, petrochemical plant, or heavy industrial facility.
- Strong technical knowledge of pumps, compressors, exchangers, piping systems, and pressure vessels.
- Working knowledge of mechanical codes and standards (API 610, 618, 650, 653; ASME B31.3, Section VIII, IX).
- Experience in managing or supervising maintenance teams or contractors.
- Proven ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical drawings.
- Proficient in CMMS systems such as SAP PM or Maximo.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
- Certifications such as API 510/570/653, NCCER, or equivalent are a plus.
- Turnaround or project execution experience.
- Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) or predictive maintenance exposure.
- OSHA 30 or refinery safety training (e.g., Basic Plus, TWIC).
