BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P CQ CUSTOMER ENGINEERING 1A Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)



JOB FUNCTION:

Is responsible for service installations of underground and overhead service to residential, commercial, and industrial customers whose demands are 10 KVA and below.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Fundamental Responsibilities:

Determines the routes and customer requirements of overhead and underground service installations for residential and small commercial and industrial loads; prepares and issues work orders, sketches, materials lists and part-cost billings to Construction & Maintenance Department for installations.
Coordinates the processing of service requests for installations with developers, consultants, contractors, other joint pole members, and owners or applicants.
Obtains approval for construction, as required, from governmental agencies and other joint pole members.
Investigates and determines existing transformer capacity. Issues work orders and material lists to make necessary changes or service additions.
Determines and stakes out pole and anchor locations.
Prepares sketch, material lists, joint pole applications, and customer’s cost estimate for service for service installations; forwards cost to applicants.
Obtains required right-of-way data from landowners.
Notifies telephone company in writing of road crossings.
Makes field survey of existing facilities to obtain necessary data for design of service request.
Makes field inspections of installations in construction. If necessary, notifies contractor or applicant to make corrections.
Investigates minor customer complaints pertaining to poles or anchors, bare service lines, and trees touching lines. Investigates low voltage complaints for residential services; issues work orders to adjudicate complaints.
Determines applicable rate schedule and deposit amounts required; issues forms for meter installation.
Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.




Other Responsibilities:

Assists in bringing distribution maps up to date.
Occasionally assists Customer Designers on large jobs.
Performs similar and incidental duties as required.




BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH).

Note:Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the TECH.

Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test.
Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required.
Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to manage multiple projects, deal with customers, conduct field work, and produce detailed designs and estimates.
Must be able to pass a performance test covering basic design print reading, estimating, and design package processing.
Must have working knowledge of computers.

Work Hours: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm


Lunch: 30 minutes


Location: Honolulu – Oahu


Wage: $36.44 – $40.48
