The P VL ELECTRICAL & WELDING SERVICES Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Supervises, directs, coordinates, and monitors the activities of the Division's work group in support of the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Company's Energy Delivery equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•

Supervise, directs, coordinates and monitors the work of the Division in providing electrical, mechanical, machining, welding, painting, and related services in support of the installation, maintenance, and repair of company facilities such as substations, transformers, steel poles, vehicles, and equipment. Plans, schedules and assigns work requests to craft employees and outside contractors.

•

Manages and administers all divisional personnel matters including performance

•

appraisals and interviews; recognition of employee achievements, and disciplinary actions. Plans, schedules, coordinates and conducts safety meetings and informational meetings to foster open lines or communications, and appropriate training programs to maintain and improve employee technical and personal skills.

•

Plans, analyze, initiates, directs and monitors all divisional activities and programs to ensure that the Company goals and objectives are achieved, including meeting governmental regulations for testing and record keeping. Determines the Division’s present and forecasted operational needs and prepares/updates the budget. Researches and provides data for manpower needs.

•

Identifies and recommends division equipment and tools requirements for forecasts. Responds to callouts and/or other emergencies.

•

Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

•

Thorough knowledge of maintenance and shop work (i.e., electrical, mechanical, sheet metal, machining, welding, painting, etc.)

•

Thorough knowledge of the principles of time standards measurement and workforce management and principles of estimating normally acquired through completion of related training programs.

•

Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e. spreadsheets, word-processing, database management, etc.)

•

Working knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Safety and Health Manual;Code of Conduct;; etc.

Skills Requirements

•

Supervisory/leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals, and the willingness and ability to train.

•

Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

•

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with others.

•

Analytical and administrative skills required for such tasks are preparing and monitoring estimates/forecasts; preparing performance appraisals and conducting interviews; and carrying out company/department policies and procedures.

•

Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

Experience Requirements

•

Several years (3-5) trades experience at a Working Foreman level in maintenance and shop work or equivalent experience.

•

A few years (1-2) of related work experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
