We are seeking a skilled Millwright to join our team in the Northwest Territories on a project with our client Marine Transport Services.
The Journeyperson Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems and equipment within the MTS shipyard. This role ensures the operational readiness of shipyard infrastructure, heavy equipment, and vessel components requiring specialized machining, alignment, and fabrication. The Millwright plays a critical role in maintaining safe and efficient shipyard operations by performing high-precision mechanical work and supporting vessel maintenance as needed. The position works alongside machinists, welders, electricians, carpenters, and laborers to achieve the goals of their work.
- Install, maintain, and repair shipyard mechanical systems, including cranes, winches, pumps, and hydraulic systems to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Conduct precision alignments of rotating equipment such as propulsion shafts, bearings, and pump assemblies
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on shipyard infrastructure and heavy equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures, implementing effective repair solutions to minimize downtime
- Assist with vessel refits by repairing or replacing mechanical components, including steering gear, pumps, and auxiliary systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for mechanical system installations and repairs
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts usage, repair logs, and equipment service history
- Provide technical expertise and mentorship to apprentices or junior technicians as required
- Other duties as assigned by the Machining Department
- Journeyperson Millwright certification
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating machinery
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with a focus on efficiency and problem-solving
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals
- Commitment to safety procedures and regulatory compliance
- Ability to work independently or within a team in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Previous work in Shipyard or with marine operations considered an asset.
