This position is responsible for QA/QC of company-wide geospatial data to support geothermal exploration activities and reservoir management. The GIS specialist will work with multiple departments to clean up and standardize existing GIS data, applications, workflows, and custom tools. The specialist will also assist in the preparation of publication-quality maps, applications, and support documentation to convey information to geologists, engineers, management, and regulators. May be asked to participate in other GIS field surveys and support tasks as required by team.
Clean and standardize existing GIS data and applications
Collaborate with multiple departments within the company to ensure quality standards and internal consistency of geospatial data sets and workflows
Create and publish interactive data, maps, and applications for a variety of user groups
Develop standards for GIS metadata and quality control with appropriate documentation
Collect new and/or confirm existing geospatial data in the field
Test existing and new spatial analysis tools, create new tools where add value/time savings to existing workflows
Must be working on or recently completed a degree related to earth sciences, environmental sciences, geography, or cartography
Experience with Python scripting is advantageous but not required
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of the Internet.
Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
The ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors in difficult weather conditions
The ability to walk, hike, and work on steep, rough terrain for extended periods of time
The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
The ability to work in an office environment
The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert
