Job Summary
The Instrumentation and Controls Lead for the Technology and Automation division of EDG is responsible for supporting the implementation of instrumentation and control projects.The Instrumentation and Controls Lead will act as part of an Owner’s Engineering Team to provide oversight of projects.Due to the technical nature of the projects, the Instrumentation and Controls Lead will often act as the technical authority providing oversight and approval of functional specifications and other key deliverables.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsibility for the technical delivery of the project or component of larger projects in support of the Owner’s Engineering Team;
- Acts in the project manager role for smaller engagements;
- Provides direction to lead the technical project team;
- Establishes and manages detailed project design, and engineering scope of work;
- Establishes or assists in establishing the detailed project execution plan and development of the overall budget and schedule;
- Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for construction or procurement use;
- Supervises preparation of, reviews and endorses bid analyses and recommendations for procurement of equipment material and services within engineering scope of responsibility;
- Resolves field-initiated questions on engineering;
- Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant procedures, design guides and application programs;
- Undertakes design co-ordination meetings with construction at various phases of the project.
- Interacts with client on all engineering and technical matters;
- Assists in proposals, in technical matters, cost estimation etc. during business development phase of projects.
- Twenty (20) or more years of total experience working on Upstream Offshore Instrumentation and Controls Projects;
- Technical hands-on knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, application of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computer software specially related to complexities of upstream, downstream, midstream, chemical facilities of all types;
- Knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures;
- Experience performing engineering for Conceptual Studies, FEED, Detailed Engineering, Commissioning, and Startup;
- Experience in engineering design of large modularized facilities;
- Knowledge of related fabrication/construction/installation practices and economics and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction;
- Knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards;
- Skill in oral and written communication;
- Demonstrated skill in supervision;
- Strong organizational and managerial skills related to complex engineering activities.
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;
- Three (3) days per week will be spent at our client’s office in The Woodlands, TX;
- Two (2) days per week will be remote or from EDG’s offices;
- Field duties require outdoor work in a construction site type atmosphere;
- Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
- Working on a construction site or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

- Must be able to lift and carry five (20) pounds;
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;
- Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
