We are seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanical Estimator with experience in retrofit, new construction and commercial equipment replacement to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical projects, including replacements of rooftop units, split systems, chilled water systems, and associated ductwork and controls in existing commercial buildings. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, experience interpreting construction documents, and a deep understanding of retrofit project constraints and coordination needs.
Key Responsibilities:
•Review bid invitations, conduct site walks (when applicable), and analyze project specifications, drawings, and scope of work.
•Prepare detailed takeoffs of HVAC equipment, piping, ductwork, insulation, and control systems.
•Evaluate existing site conditions and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for accurate pricing on equipment, crane services, rigging, electrical, controls, and any required demo or roof work.
•Collaborate with the project management and engineering teams to ensure constructability and compliance with client expectations.
•Prepare clear, competitive proposals and bid packages for commercial retrofit and equipment replacement projects.
•Manage project bid logs, subcontractor/vendor quotes, and internal estimating database.
•Attend pre-bid meetings and perform value engineering when needed to optimize cost and performance.
•Maintain awareness of industry pricing trends, material costs, labor productivity, and permitting requirements in the tri-county area.
Qualifications:
•5+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC estimating with emphasis on commercial retrofit or equipment changeouts.
•Strong knowledge of HVAC systems including RTUs, VRF/VRV, chilled water, DX, and ductwork configurations.
•Proficient in reading construction plans and specifications.
•Familiar with estimating software (such as FastDUCT, FastPIPE, Trimble, or QuoteSoft) and Microsoft Excel.
•Strong communication and organizational skills.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
•OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
•HVAC or mechanical engineering background is a plus.
Work Environment:
•Office-based with occasional job site visits for walkthroughs or verification of existing conditions.
•Must be comfortable working with contractors, vendors, and owners in a professional manner.
