If you’re just jumping into HR and are comfortable being an HR team of one, enjoys creating structure out of chaos, and maybe swears a little under your breath during payroll week—you’re gonna fit right in.
This role is all about people—keeping things smooth, compliant, and drama-free (mostly). You’ll be building relationships, solving problems, and calling out nonsense when it pops up. You won’t be stuck in a back office printing forms—we like our HR folks front and center.
- Roll out welcome kits with our story, culture, expectations—and of course, Ohm Solar Solutions swag.
- Walk new hires through the “who’s who,” tour the place, and actually make onboarding fun.
- Handle graceful exits, final pay, and a proper send-off that’s not just an awkward handshake.
- Other onboarding tasks that are just necessary to get stuff done (add/remove email profiles, etc.)
Payroll Stuff (AKA “Don’t Mess This Up”)
- Get employees set up in Paycom/ADP, distribute W-2s and W-4s, and keep it all running on time.
- Submit weekly payroll, survive audits with your sanity intact, and keep garnishments organized.
- Final pay? Check. Deactivation? Done. No drama.
- Listen to complaints without an eye-roll (or at least hide it well).
- Run investigations that are fair and fast—no dragging things out. And consult with leadership as needed.
- Support managers with corrective actions that actually help, not hurt.
- Get people signed up (or signed off) medical and 401(k) plans like a champ.
- Reconcile benefit statements and send those spicy 401(k) reports each week.
- Keep employees informed without needing a decoder ring.
- Write job posts that don’t read like government forms.
- Research market comp so we pay fairly—and don’t lose candidates over pennies.
- Coordinate interviews like a pro and help seal the deal with solid offers.
- Keep us on the right side of labor laws, employee classification rules, and all that fun stuff.
- Make sure training is happening—and tracked—without turning into the training police.
- Have 0-3 years of HR experience (solar, manufacturing, or energy = a bonus) with a B.S. degree in a related field (human resources, etc.)
- Familiarity with California employment law and HR requirements (keep us out of HR jail)
- Have experience running payroll
- Familiarity with HRIS (Paycom, ADP, Bamboo HR)
- Have a high radar for BS and a low tolerance for nonsense.
- Know when to bring the empathy—and when to bring the handbook.
- You are comfortable navigating some ambiguity; we wear different hats to just get stuff done (especially being HR of one - working independently)
- Are HR-certified (SHRM, PHR, etc.) or just really good at what you do.
- Have a knowledge of HR fundamentals (talent acquisition, total rewards, performance management, employee relations, organizational change and effectiveness, learning and development)
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality and independent judgment in the performance of responsibilities.
- Familiarity and knowledge of onboarding/offboarding seasonal contract employees
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources
- $55K–$75K/year (based on experience and how much awesome you bring).
