Carbon Direct (CD), a sister company to RES Coal LLC, is hiring an experienced Heavy-Duty Truck Shop Mechanic to support and maintain our tri-axle truck fleet. This role is based out of our truck garage and focuses on keeping a modern, well-maintained fleet running safely and reliably.
We are looking for a seasoned mechanic who is comfortable working independently, diagnosing issues correctly the first time, and handling more advanced repairs. Engine overhauls are not part of this role.

The Heavy-Duty Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Carbon Direct’s on-road truck fleet. The majority of work involves tri-axle trucks, with occasional work on service trucks, on-road water trucks, and mobile drill chassis.
This role focuses on everything short of engine overhauls, including powertrain, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, hydraulics, and DOT compliance. More junior work (oil changes, greasing, basic PMs) is primarily handled by junior mechanics.
- Approximately 25 tri-axle trucks
- Mostly Peterbilt trucks (2014 and newer)
- 6–10 service trucks (occasional work)
- On-road water trucks (seasonal)
- Mobile drills (truck engines and chassis worked on as needed)
Over 90% of the workload is tri-axle focused.
- Review work priorities with shop leadership
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or driveline issues
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs
- Complete DOT inspections and compliance work
- Coordinate with other mechanics to keep trucks in service
- Document work performed and report follow-up needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Mechanics are typically assigned consistent trucks, allowing familiarity with equipment and early identification of issues.
- $26–$37 per hour, depending on experience
- More experienced candidates typically $30+/hour- 5×10-hour shifts, typically 5:00–3:00 or 6:00–4:00
- Saturday work is available; rarely mandated
- Overtime paid according to policy

- Replacement of tools broken on the job (in kind)
- Company uniforms, coveralls, and jackets- 3+ years experience as a heavy-duty truck mechanic
- Strong diagnostic ability across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to work independently and make sound repair decisions
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics
- Valid PA Class B CDL (extremely preferred / nearly required)
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
- Ability to work in a shop and industrial environment
- PA vehicle inspection license
- Experience maintaining tri-axle or vocational truck fleets
- Familiarity with Peterbilt trucks
- Welding or fabrication experience
- MSHA surface training (currently required; may be removed in the future)
- Work performed in a shop environment with occasional field or yard exposure
- Exposure to typical mechanical hazards (moving parts, noise, chemicals)
- Required use of PPE as applicable
