About the role
The Graduate Environmental role offers a 2 year opportunity with the goal of transitioning to permanent employment upon successful completion of the program. You will gain practical exposure, both in surface and underground environments to assist in their knowledge and understanding of operations. The Environmental Graduate in Training will be responsible for monitoring and reporting environmental conditions to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and for coordinating and managing various projects and activities, and set standards for the Environmental Department at Evolution Mining Red Lake Operation.
This is a local, site based position.
The position will be based residentially in Red Lake, Ontario. FIFO is not available. Housing will be provided with a small rental cost to employees.
Key result areas in this role include:
Collect and monitor environmental data (surface water, ground water, air & noise, and acid rock drainage).
Coordinate and ensure timely reporting of all required internal, corporate and governmental reports.
Organize and carry out sampling schedules for all environmental programs including external laboratory audits.
Manage tailings inspections, dam stability, and site water balance.
Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with Government sampling and monitoring criteria (e.g., government reporting to RISS, Mews, owners).
Supervise Environmental Technicians, consultants, and summer students.
Implement and maintain environmental programs related to government permits and conditions.
Oversee hazardous waste management and disposal.
Verify QA/QC for external lab.
Provide environmental advice and recommendations and act as Consultant on various projects; provide / implement suggestions for environmental improvements.
Ensure 100% compliance with various environmental monitoring programs (e.g. Cyanide Code, COA, MISA, MMER, air emissions, potable water, etc.).
Maintain spill response plans.
Supervise and assist in the containment and clean-up of environmental spills on site.
Maintain site WHMIS compliance and MSDS database.
Update policies and procedures as part of Environmental Management System.
Participate in preparation of annual budget for environmental programs.
Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
About you
As a Graduate Environemtal, you will have a completed a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Biology. It is also important to have 2-3 years technical experience in the environmental fields in the underground mining industry. It is also important that you have/demonstrate:
Very familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Environmental legislation
Solid understanding of industrial health testing and monitoring equipment
Effective industrial health monitoring background and experience
Strong technical aptitude for operation and tolerances of IH equipment
Capable of learning and adapting to new equipment and software
Comprehends and is able to interpret technical language
Reasonably comfortable working with mathematical equations
Capable of working with and understanding budgets
Maintains confidentiality in all company dealings
Capable of following written procedures with strong attention to detail
Excellent prioritization and time management abilities and able to adhere to tight timelines
Valid Class G driver’s license
Outstanding interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with others
Excellent organizational skills
Competent written and verbal communication skills
Numeric and analytical ability
Competent computer skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Works effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapts well to constant change
Able to manage multiple priorities and projects
Functions productively alone or in a team atmosphere
Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with strong teambuilding skills
