GIS Technician Contractor

The GIS Technician works collaboratively with various teams and under supervision to solve complex issues, utilizing proficiency in computer interfaces and GIS applications. This individual is responsible for the maintenance, support, and analysis of geospatial data across multiple platforms and serves as a key liaison between business users, technology, and support departments. Their role supports a data-first culture by ensuring accurate geographic information is available and maintained across the organization.

Responsibilities

- Strong skills and understanding of GIS technology, software, and processes.

- Administers GIS database and routine system tasks that meet company’s standards.

- Maintains metadata and documentation for GIS data and workflows.

- Follows established processes and procedures in creating, integrating and maintaining GIS data as required to support business processes and outcomes.

- Produce maps and spatial reports to support various business groups.

- Enhancing proficiency in analyzing requirements, offering recommendations, and assisting in the creation of solutions throughout the organization’s GIS application suite.

- Demonstrate general GIS problem solving and troubleshooting to assist others as needed.

- Ensure data accuracy and consistency through quality control and validation processes.

- Support mobile GIS and field data collection tools (e.g., ArcGIS Field Maps, Collector, Survey123).

- Gain knowledge and support GIS integration efforts including various data and enterprise application integrations.

- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or related discipline preferred

- Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering GIS data & solutions

- ArcGIS including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise (SDE, ArcGIS Server & Portal)

- Strong GIS, geography, cartography, and photogrammetry skills

- Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and geodetic datums (e.g., NAD27, NAD83)

Nice to Have:

- Experience with data modeling and data workflow ETL tools (FME preferred)

- ArcGIS Web App Development

- Upstream Oil and Gas Industry experience is preferable but not required
