The Specialist, GIS is responsible for GIS data collection and coordination with internal and external data providers. This position performs technical work related to designing, maintaining, and producing geographic data and graphics through an automated geographic information system (GIS). The position is also responsible for special assigned projects related to database management including CMMS, assisting in preparing graphics and assisting other project staff by providing data and exhibits from the GIS and other databases.
- Utilize mapping grade GPS to field verify and accurately locate assets and update GIS data accordingly.
- Configure GPS settings to collect location data within horizontal and vertical tolerance limits and post process GPS data as needed.
- Provide GIS support to project staff and client technical staff including but not limited to creating and maintaining map products or concept level project drawings using ESRI software platform
- Coordinate with project staff and utilize GIS to update and maintain the water and wastewater utility asset inventory
- Assist project staff with integration of GIS inventory, CMMS program and financial systems
- Perform GPS surveys and train project staff to utilize mapping grade GPS receivers and mobile mapping tools for daily field work
- Perform other related functions assigned or as they become apparent
- Perform field work, including surveying, inspecting and recording information for related projects
- Enter valve data into valve program
- Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple assignments
- Effective written and oral communication
- Basic use of AutoCAD software
- Advanced use of ESRI ArcMap software
- Basic use of mapping grade GPS receivers
- Use and operation of ESRI GIS software.
- Basic methods, techniques and procedures utilized in the planning, design, maintenance, and production of GIS data and graphics
- Use of MS Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
- Use of Autodesk AutoCAD software
- Use, operate and have fundamental understanding of GPS technology
- Strong ETL skills migrating various data formats into a GIS database
- Ability to use editing tools within ArcGIS
- Associates or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years’ experience in GIS systems configuration and implementation, ideally in a utility environment.- Valid Driver’s License
- Office, with some field work.
- Must be physically able to work indoor or outdoor and during seasonal heat/ cold or other adverse weather conditions.
