Ascent Resources is seeking an Associate Operations Geologist; we will hire at a level commensurate with experience. This position is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and will report to the Manager – Geological Operations.
This position is responsible for executing all geological responsibilities associated with planning and drilling wells. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the well development planning.
- Creating structure maps, isopach maps, cross sections and pre-drill seismic sections along the well bore to identify geo-hazards, anticipated formation tops, casing points and horizontal target lines
- Creating Geological Prognosis for AFE’s and drilling plans
- Presenting maps and cross sections at the Pre-Spud meetings. Discuss geo-hazards, casing points, and horizontal target lines
- Geosteering – interpret and integrate near real-time MWD and survey data with geologic model to provide guidance to the drilling and subsurface teams on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis, as needed.
- Communicating geosteering interpretations to the drilling and directional drilling teams to optimize wellbore placement in the reservoir target objective
- Attending daily drilling meetings and provide updates relating to geo-hazards and geosteering to the team
- Coordinating with Reservoir, Land and Field departments for pad selection and lateral layouts for each drilling unit
- Firm understanding of how to correlate well logs, construct geological maps and cross-sections
- Minimum one-year of geosteering experience (Utica Play preferred)
- Fundamental understanding of rig operations
- Proficient in one or more geosteering software packages
- Quality problem-solving abilities
- Able to manage one’s own time and prioritize tasks
- Professionally communicate with other disciplines
- Presentation experience
- Must be a team player, with the ability to interact closely with colleagues and other departments
- Experience in GeoGraphix software
- Experience in Kingdom software
- Experience in StarSteer geosteering software
- On-site rig experience with mud logging or geosteering
- Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience
- 1-3 years of geosteering experience
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Power Point, Excel and Outlook
