Job Description:

The Sr. Manager of Fuel Supply manages all elements of branded station nationwide fuel supply. Strategically, the role manages fuel supply programs and processes and the relationships with vendors, including fuel refiners, fuel marketers, fuel traders, pipeline operators, and fuel carriers to identify, develop, and implement long-term opportunities to improve fuel-related purchase performance for the Travel Center network.

In addition, the Sr. Manager directs the development of accounting and reporting processes to measure and drive purchase performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Establish and maintain good working relationships with regional fuel marketers, refiners, exchange partners, terminal operators, pipeline companies, and fuel carriers.

Understand dynamics of the fuel supply markets to support and optimize strategic, long term supply decisions. Leverage this market awareness to identify creative options to improve fuel-related purchasing.

Manage regional RFP processes and contracts with fuel marketers and refiners to provide supply security and optimize potential purchase performance into each service location.

Working with trading and supply, develop alternative supply (spot market purchases, product trading / exchanges, etc.) and logistics options (movements via pipelines, marine, and rail into throughput terminals) to improve supply security or further improve potential purchase performance into each location.

Support the fuel pricing strategy for the company’s network of fleet contracts and assets by providing accurate, timely market information.

Work with Regional Supply Leaders and Logistics Coordinators to optimize purchases, including the evaluation and execution of daily market-driven purchase opportunities, while balancing the need for supply security.

Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to implement renewable fuel strategies without compromising fuel quality or customer fuel quality perceptions.

Coordinate a robust freight strategy that ensures supply reliability and the flexibility to improve purchase performance while balancing logistics flexibility and freight cost.

Ensure product quality by purchasing from quality vendors and coordinating additive programs. Work to correct product quality problems.

Maintain awareness of fuel regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and to gain cost advantage with new fuel types, including biodiesel and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

Continue to enhance internal systems and processes to capture supplier pricing, forecast site sales to generate purchase requirements, the development / communication / tracking of load orders.

Continue to develop streamlined back-office processes to quickly and accurately account for fuel purchases.

Develop annual and long-range forecasts, sales, capital, and operating budgets to meet established return on investment targets.

Inform management of daily and month to date fuel margins and volume projections to assist fleet and site pricing as well as investment decisions. Liaise with accounting to ensure payment and credit terms are met.

Lead a team of 30+ commercial contributors, developing and performance managing to grow capability and financial contribution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent industry experience

10 or more years of relevant experience contributing to Fuel Supply leadership.

Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in commercial and financial acumen, including business development and negotiations.

Demonstrated leadership competence including strong interpersonal skills, innovation, talent and performance management.

Proven ability to communicate professionally with all levels within organization, interpersonal, negotiation, and customer service skills
