The finish department manager ensures that personnel have the necessary products pulled for processing each project. Manage project assignments and have the authority to reassign projects to other finishers when necessary to maintain workflow and maximize productivity. Ensure optimal utilization of personnel by assigning projects that match their skill levels, aiming to keep all staff actively engaged and the production flow efficient within the finish department. Implement and enforce finish department procedures to ensure consistent quality and safety standards are met. Develop and conduct training programs for current personnel to enhance their skills and for new hires to quickly integrate them into the team. Occasionally travel to jobsites with the team to oversee and perform field touch-ups as required to meet project specifications and client expectations.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
•Ensure each day shift begins with all project products pulled, as they cannot be prepared the day before due to storage in flammable cabinets.
•Supervise end-of-shift cleanup and rag disposal procedures daily.
•Coordinate daily tasks for finishers, ensuring efficient time management.
•Review upcoming projects with second shift daily, providing training on procedures and necessary products.
•Initiate product orders via email if the Finish department runs out.
•Monitor upcoming schedule projects to ensure timely product receipt; escalate delays to plant manager.
•Manage nightly AMU shutdown and small heater activation.
•Organize and maintain Finish department building and paint container through personnel allocation.
•Address process improvement opportunities in Lean meetings.
•Oversee daily equipment maintenance and cleaning, report equipment part needs to the plant manager.
•Communicate with plant manager for finish clarification and specific processes.
•Assign individual finishers to separate projects whenever possible.
•Ensure daily storage of incoming flammable products in designated cabinets or containers.
•Finish manager will have finish personnel do overhead and booth cleaning and maintenance on an as needed basis.
•Filters will be changed out of booths when flow reading falls below set standards and log kept of when filters were changed.
•All spray machines will be cleaned back to original after each daily use.
•Inspect work being processed and will bring to Plant manager’s attention any item that does not meet our quality standards.
•Admonish finish room personnel how to accomplish the quality necessary or will consult with Plant manager to come up with viable solutions to finish or quality issues.
Required Skills and Abilities:
•Organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office
•Proficient with inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.
•Understanding of dock and warehouse procedures.
•Strong planning and time management skills.
Education and Experience:
•High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
•Minimum of 2 years’ experience with logistics and inventory control
Physical requirements:
•Must be able to traverse a distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units.
•Must be able to life up to 75 pounds at a time.
•Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
