About The Job

Reporting to the Controller, this role manages CORE’s daily financial operations, including accounting, asset management, budgeting, and forecasting. The Finance Manager supports the Controller in preparing financial reports, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring a robust system of internal controls.

The Finance Manager guides internal teams on financial reporting standards and oversees the annual budget process in collaboration with department leaders. They also advise management on regulatory or financial matters, coordinating with external consultants when needed.

This is an exempt onsite position at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 North U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135. You will... Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the development, monitoring, and reporting of the annual financial and departmental budgets, including preparation of the Board reporting package, documentation of key milestones, and monthly forecasting updates.
Serve as the primary contact for the budgeting software, including coordinating system upgrades and communicating changes to users.
Proactively identify and advise on a timely basis of potential budgetary issues; advise and recommend actions to upper management, as appropriate, to ensure the achievement of the approved budget.
Analyze and explain budget variances, assist in KPI development, and support risk analysis and mitigation strategies.
Conduct financial analysis and modeling to support strategic decisions, track industry trends, and develop forward-looking financial plans.


Asset Management & Inventory

Oversee fixed asset accounting within the enterprise resource system, including related processes and reconciliations.
Ensure timely closure of work orders and transfer of general plant items to fixed assets.
Supervise the Fixed Asset Accountant and Work Order Technician.
Coordinate monthly with the engineering department to support accurate and timely work order processing.
Collaborate with fleet & facilities to properly set up new vehicles in the asset and fleet management systems.
Review audit and property tax support schedules related to fixed assets.
Identify and implement opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
Provide inventory accounting oversight, including reconciliation, analysis, and support for periodic physical inventories.


Reporting & Compliance

Preparation of tax reports and schedules for all sales, use, and income taxes.
Prepare and review tax filings (e.g., Forms 7, 990, 1120-POL), journal entries, month-end close reports, and account reconciliations. Support special projects and maintain adherence to internal controls and record retention policies.
Reconcile and analyze accounts.
Evaluate accounting estimates and recommend adjustments, as necessary.
Perform special projects as deemed necessary.
Understands and reviews data controls and internal procedures. Advises on noted irregularities.
Assists in developing internal controls to prevent deviations from standards defined by CORE’s Board and senior management.
Balances and analyzes complex financial data and compiles reports.

Supervise, coach, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, setting clear goals and fostering professional development.
Collaborate with the second Finance Manager to rotate responsibilities, ensure operational continuity, and support broader departmental needs.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business is required. Will consider candidates with equivalent work experience in place of formal educational requirements.
At least five years’ experience in accounting; preferably at an electric cooperative or regulated electric utility.
Requires adherence to and proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and federal, state, and local income, property, and payroll taxes.
Requires an understanding of and the ability to research applicable laws, codes, statutes, rules, and regulations.
This position will aid the Controller and Chief Financial Officer in designing business processes and developing/updating software used for payroll, accounting, budgeting, and other functions as needed; therefore, expertise in designing and testing business requirements and related internal controls and application controls is required.
Effective communication skills are essential.
Strong analytical and logical thinking skills with above-average aptitude for problem-solving.
Proven leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to effectively support and collaborate with accounting staff and other departments.
High level of integrity and discretion when managing confidential financial information.
Demonstrated ability to provide audit support for independent financial statements and other audits, with a strong understanding of and commitment to maintaining a system of internal controls is required.
This position requires the ability to multi-task and to adapt to change.
An unwavering demand for accuracy within a deadline-driven environment is essential.
