Candidates for this opportunity will need to reside in the Austin area. This is role is heavy travel (75% or more) with potential to travel throughout the US to perform work following successful completion of paid training.


Job Summary:

The Field Service Technician is responsible for maintenance activities on company systems along with their associated equipment ranging from routine maintenance to advanced troubleshooting and repair. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assembly, disassembly, testing, commissioning, and product support of systems. The Field Service Technician will also be required to provide, facilitate, and coordinate to support overall Service Team objectives when not providing direct support to a customer. The position will be focused on customer satisfaction by ensuring contractual obligations are met and equipment downtime is minimal.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide customer service by analyzing and evaluating equipment performance within an assigned area of responsibility.
Coordination of scheduled service responsibilities with the management and administrative staff of Service Department
Provide assistance and technical support as necessary.
Develop sound maintenance techniques through system knowledge.
Perform direct maintenance as required where more complex equipment problems exist.
Understand and help to maintain service contracts.
Maintain and account for tools and test equipment necessary to perform required duties.
Provide machine start-up and installation coverage on an as needed basis.
Understand and utilize procedures methodically and safely.
Diagnose, document and report problems / technical findings with recommended repair actions.
Timely reporting of events, causes and actions related to customer load losses. Provide necessary assistance to Product Support in an effort to resolve the problem.
Provide rigging and delivery assistance.
Contractor facilitation and installation assistance where possible.
Attend customer site meetings when required.
Facilitate work by electrical contractors for equipment installation.
Perform emergency and/or routine repairs on power generating equipment.
Deliver emergency parts to customer site when required.
Perform preventative maintenance on all company equipment including: UPS Systems, frequency converters, diesel controls, switchgear, and battery systems, as trained.
Progressive proficiency in job reporting and communication skills.
Provide emergency customer response by participating in weekly technician on-call schedule.
Complete and submit time sheets, expense reports and job reports within the required time frame.
Attend all formal and informal training courses as directed by the STM.
Other tasks, in-house and on-site, as assigned by their STM or Product Support and Training Manager.
Report customer opportunities (i.e. upgrades, new equipment, etc.) to the appropriate sales personnel.
Adhere to guidelines outlined in applicable documentation, with emphasis on safe work practices.
Facilitate start-up and testing of power generation equipment and switchgear.
Help to ensure service contract files are properly updated, maintained, and managed.
Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned.


Qualifications & Education Requirements


Education Requirements:

Trade school, Associates Degree, or Armed Forces equivalent are desirable prerequisites; such as related Navy nuclear fields nuclear fields or military combat systems, avionics, or other electro-mechanical systems.
HS Diploma or equivalent required.


Experience Requirements:

Minimum of four years’ technical repair/maintenance experience in either the military or commercial markets or equivalent experience.
Hands-on work maintaining and servicing commercial or industrial power distribution equipment.
Strong understanding of electronic/power principles and theory.
Strong knowledge of mechanical fundamentals as they apply to supporting electro-mechanical equipment. System training at the factory and on-the-job training with an experienced technician will be provided.


License/Certification Requirements:

A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required, as this role involves regular travel to client sites. Driving history will be reviewed in accordance with applicable laws.
This position requires extensive travel, including air travel; candidates must be comfortable and capable of flying.
Must be able to acquire a valid US passport.

Ability to function independently to provide remote technical service backed by product support and engineering staff from the factory.

Demonstrate interpersonal skills that are supportive of a collaborative working environment to include participation in process improvement and data quality auditing when not assigned to maintenance activity. Support upkeep of material history and customer databases.
Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while on company business.
Ability to analyze, evaluate and diagnose complex electro-mechanical equipment problems.
Ability to interface and coordinate effectively with customers in a professional manner.
Uphold and continually improve upon the highest level of customer satisfaction possible.
Conduct inventory management of tools, parts, and materials needed for conduct of maintenance activities to include conduct of logistics transactions with AP Supply Chain.
Thorough working knowledge of digital multi-meters, digital scope meters, amp meters/probes, oscilloscopes, load banks, and RPM units.
Windows based PC experience (programming skills a plus).


Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Requires willingness and ability to travel 75% or more to support field service activities, within and outside assigned region. Ability to travel via commercial aircraft a requirement.
Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. alone. Must be able to climb ladders and work safely.
Weekend and after-hours work may be needed to meet customer requirements.
Attend Service Department meetings and training events.
Personally owned vehicle in adequate condition to support travel requirements is needed. Active Power provides base use allowance and mileage that is adjusted for economic conditions and prevailing fuel prices.
