Job Summary
Under general direction, performs supervisory and oversight responsibilities of assigned Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) facilities.
ResponsibilitiesPlans, directs, and supervises the activities and schedules the work for Facilities Maintenance personnel. Provides training, guidance, and assistance departmental staff and external subcontractor personnel. Checks and maintains various building systems for proper operation, including but not limited to, light fixtures, fire protection and sprinkler systems, air conditioning and heating systems, and power systems. Inspects and coordinates the work of outside contractors and company maintenance personnel, including but not limited to, electricians, air conditioning contractors, electronic service technicians, painters, building maintenance contractors, carpet cleaners, and grounds maintenance contractors. Ensures compliance with bid contracts and estimates material and equipment needs; keeps work, time and material records and makes reports on work performed. Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of assigned BPUB facilities. Conducts all administrative duties for the department, including organizing the work schedules, maintaining written logs and records for assigned departmental staff. May reassign personnel as required to minimize overtime or compensate for personnel shortages. Assists with the security of assigned BPUB facilities including the alarm system, issuing security codes, communicating with law enforcement, and periodically changing locks and card access systems. Observes all safety procedures and environmental directives. Reports any observes conditions to facilities and acts accordingly to correct any problems. Maintains a highly visible and reliable position to respond to the needs of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board on a 24-hour basis. Completes other job duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in facilities maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work. Knowledge gained through experience and training to correct systems or resolve problems that occur on a daily basis. Computer software skills using Microsoft Office programs. Good communication skills in English and Spanish to communicate effectively with the public and explain difficult situations as required by work activities. Ability to plan, layout, assign and supervise the work of others. Ability to train and instruct subordinates. Ability to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to read appropriate equipment or construction plans, specifications, drawings, diagrams, or schematics as they relate to facilities maintenance. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in the performance of work.
Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma, GED or satisfactory and approved equivalent required, and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the cleaning, repair, and maintenance of buildings, grounds, equipment, and related facilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.

Ability to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time while supervising the work of subordinates or contractors’ crews. Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lb. to a 3-foot height when required. Ability to climb up or down ladders to a 25-foot height or depth without feeling discomfort. Ability to work under adverse weather conditions including, but not limited to rain and sleet and withstand temperature extremes ranging from 20 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Ability to work extra hours during workdays, weekends or holidays to complete work as required.
