As a Construction Estimator, you play a pivotal role in the construction project lifecycle by providing accurate and competitive cost estimates. Your expertise in analyzing project requirements, conducting material takeoffs, and considering various factors contributes to informed decision-making, successful bidding, and project profitability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Project Assessment: Assess project specifications, plans, and requirements to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project scope and objectives.
•Material Takeoffs: Proficiency in conducting accurate material takeoffs and quantifying the required materials and resources.
•Cost Estimation: Utilize construction estimating software and industry-standard methodologies to prepare accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and contractor costs.
•Cost Analysis: Ability to analyze project costs, including direct and indirect expenses, overhead, and profit margins, to determine a competitive yet profitable bid price.
•Competitive Analysis: Ability to research and analyze competitors' bids and pricing strategies to develop competitive and profitable proposals.
•Value Engineering: Collaborate with project teams to explore value engineering options and cost-saving alternatives without compromising project quality.
•Estimate Review: Collaborate with estimating teams to review and refine estimates, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
•Bid Strategy: Ability to develop and execute comprehensive bid strategies, considering factors such as project complexity, market conditions, and client expectations.
•Bid Preparation: Ability to create comprehensive bid packages, ensuring compliance with bid submission requirements, deadlines, and contractual obligations.
•Client Interaction: Engage with clients and project stakeholders to clarify project specifications, answer inquiries, and build positive relationships.
•Vendor and Contractor Relations: Solicit quotes and bids from vendors and contractors, evaluate proposals, and negotiate pricing to secure competitive rates.
•Vendor and Contractor Coordination: Effective communication and negotiation skills to solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and contractor bids.
•Documentation Management: Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, vendor/contractor communications, and historical cost data for reference and analysis.
•Reporting: Ability to prepare and present estimates and proposals to internal teams and clients, explaining cost breakdowns and assumptions.
•Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Required:
•Construction Processes: Understanding of construction project lifecycles, methodologies, and practices, including the phases of planning, design, bidding, construction, and closeout.
•Construction Methods and Materials: Comprehensive understanding of construction materials, techniques, and industry-specific terminology.
•Construction Plans and Specifications: Proficiency in interpreting architectural and engineering plans, drawings, and project specifications.
•Cost Estimation Principles: Familiarity with cost estimation methodologies, including unit pricing, quantity takeoffs, and parametric estimating.
•Project Management: Basic knowledge of project management principles to assess project requirements and timelines.
•Building Codes and Regulations: Awareness of local building codes, regulations, and permit requirements that impact project costs and compliance.
•Value Engineering: Understanding of value engineering concepts and the ability to identify cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality.
•Mathematics and Statistics: Strong mathematical skills, including proficiency in algebra and statistics for accurate cost calculations.
•Estimating Software: Knowledge of construction estimating software and tools used for accurate cost calculations and bid preparation.
•Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address challenges, complexities, and cost-related issues in project estimation.
•Data Analysis: Proficient analytical skills to assess project costs, including direct and indirect expenses, overhead, and profit margins.
•Time Management: Effective time management skills to meet bid submission deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks.
•Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of estimates and bid packages.
•Documentation Management: Skill in maintaining organized records of estimates, bids, vendor/contractor communications, and historical cost data.
•Reporting: Proficient presentation skills for preparing and presenting estimates and proposals to internal teams and clients, effectively communicating cost breakdowns and assumptions.
•Compliance Adherence: Commitment to adhering to bid submission requirements, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.
•Communication: Clear and effective communication skills to interact with clients, project stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams.
•Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, Planswift, and Foxit.
•Confidentiality: Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Experience: 2+ years of extensive and proven experience in construction estimating, with a demonstrated track record of successful bids and projects, a combination of education and work experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree.
