Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented
Estimator
to lead the preparation of competitive and accurate cost estimates for electrical construction projects involving commercial/industrial power systems, including but not limited to the installation and integration of diesel generators, natural gas generator, uninterruptible power supply, battery energy storage systems, microgrids and renewables. This role will play a critical part in supporting preconstruction efforts, proposal development, budgeting, and bid strategies. The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Core Responsibilities
(All Levels):
•Lead all aspects of electrical subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes, from conceptual to final pricing.
•Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates and critical path schedules.

•Process RFPs, RFQs, and internal pricing requests; broadcast bidding opportunities to prequalified subcontractors.
•Manage electrical subcontractor RFP processes and bid-leveling activities; evaluate proposals for scope, compliance, and alignment.
•Ensure company and project compliance with all relevant bidding regulations and internal policies.
•Maintain and operate within internal estimating systems, pricing databases, and industry software (e.g., McCormick, Accubid, ConEst, Excel, Bluebeam).
•Organize and maintain supporting documentation, supplier quotes, and backup for estimate assumptions.
•Integrate historical cost data, productivity benchmarks, and market trends into estimates.
•Monitor and report changes in project scope, pricing assumptions, or cost risk.
•Support multiple active bids simultaneously while meeting submission timelines.
•Assist with subcontractor outreach, trade scoping, and proposal comparison.
•Contribute to project hand-off meetings and post-bid analysis to improve future estimates.
Advanced Responsibilities:
•Drive continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and workflows.
•Manage estimating team workloads, project assignments, and timeline coordination.
•Facilitate bid strategy meetings; gather cross-functional input from PMs, engineering, and business development.
•Identify and implement process improvements that elevate estimating accuracy and efficiency.
•Support BD efforts through preliminary budgeting, scoping, and client proposal alignment.
•Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
•Provide executive-level insight and leadership in preconstruction strategy and major pursuits.
•Define department KPIs, estimation standards, and performance metrics.
•Guide go/no-go decisions based on risk, margin, and alignment with company objectives.
•Represent estimating in executive meetings, client presentations, and corporate strategy sessions.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field preferred — or equivalent experience in the electrical industry.
•Minimum 7 years of experience estimating electrical scopes, including one or more of the following: power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, control systems.
•Proven success estimating projects in commercial, industrial, utility-scale, or mission-critical environments (e.g., hospitals, data centers, manufacturing, or renewables).
•Strong technical understanding of industrial power systems, diesel generation, electrical distribution, switchgear, controls, energy storage, microgrids, and/or renewable energy integration.
•Ability to analyze and interpret electrical engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, and relevant codes (NEC and local authorities).
•Proficiency in estimating and CRM/ERM tools such as McCormick, Accubid, Salesforce, NetSuite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
•Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; comfortable presenting estimates to internal and external stakeholders.
•Ability to build trust and maintain relationships at all levels — from field technicians to executives.
•Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
•Willingness to travel nationally as needed; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
•Prior field experience as a licensed electrician or electrical construction professional is strongly preferred.
•Relevant certifications (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician, ASPE CPE, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E) and ongoing continuing education are valued.
