Position Description: Job Title: Estimator / Forensic Construction Estimator
Location: Mobile, Alabama (with occasional regional travel)
For a forensic engineering and construction management firm specializing in construction defects, claims analysis, and expert testimony across structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and roofing disciplines. Our team provides technical expertise and independent evaluations for legal, insurance, and construction industry clients.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Estimator to support our forensic and investigative projects. This role requires a hybrid of estimating, construction knowledge, and claims/defect analysis capabilities. The Estimator will prepare cost estimates, evaluate construction defects, analyze repair scopes, review plans and specifications, and help produce expert reports. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, attorneys, subcontractors, clients, and internal technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid pricing for repair/defect mitigation projects
Review and interpret architectural/engineering drawings, specifications, and reports
Solicit subcontractor and supplier proposals, evaluate and integrate into estimate
Provide value engineering and alternate cost analyses
Incorporate contingencies, escalation, overhead and profit, and risk adjustments
Conduct site visits and field measurements to verify scope of work
Assist in preparation of expert reports, claims documentation, and defensible cost support
Collaborate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and roofing engineers
Maintain internal cost databases and historical data
Track and manage multiple estimate assignments and deadlines
Present and defend estimates to internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical) or Construction Management (or equivalent experience)
20+ years of construction estimating experience (commercial/industrial)
Prior experience in claims, defect investigation, or forensic work is highly preferred
Strong technical competency across multiple disciplines (structural, M/E/P, roofing)
Proficiency in estimating software (On Center, MC2, Sage Estimating, etc.) and advanced Excel skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Demonstrated analytical ability, attention to detail, and integrity
Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
Ability to travel regionally for site inspections
Must pass background check and drug test as part of hiring process

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range: $100K to $150K (commensurate with experience, technical ability, and forensic work expertise)
Travel reimbursement / per diem for site visits
