As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled Substation Estimator to join our team and support our expanding portfolio of projects.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Substation Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for substation projects ranging from greenfield builds to expansions, upgrades, and maintenance scopes. This role requires strong technical knowledge of substation design and construction, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations and project management teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services for substation construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, RFPs, and other project documents to ensure accurate takeoffs and scope development
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and procurement to validate constructability, production rates, and pricing
- Maintain current knowledge of industry costs, productivity factors, and market conditions
- Assist in risk analysis and value engineering to optimize bid competitiveness
- Prepare bid proposals and support presentations to clients as needed
- Track and analyze historical cost data to improve future estimating accuracy
- Support contract negotiations by clarifying cost drivers and assumptions
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of estimating experience, with at least 2 years focused on electrical substations or related power infrastructure- Familiarity with high-voltage substation components (transformers, breakers, bus work, foundations, grounding, etc.)
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., B2W) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and productivity factors
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple bids simultaneously
