The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Commercial Solar Estimator who’s not just good with numbers — but sees the story behind them. You’ll be the one turning visions into winning proposals for projects ranging from sleek rooftop arrays to sprawling ground mounts and solar carports. If you thrive on precision, problem-solving, and keeping up with evolving cost trends, you’ll fit right in here.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for solar carports, fixed and tracker ground mounts, and roof mounts.
- Estimate for battery storage systems and integrate into overall project proposals.
- Use AutoCAD to review drawings and assist with preliminary layout design.
- Visit (or virtually assess) project sites to gather accurate data for pricing.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to align costs with scope.
- Maintain and update an internal database of cost trends, proactively alerting internal stakeholders of significant changes.
- Analyze labor, materials, equipment, and timelines to create competitive bids.
- Track project cost performance to sharpen future estimates.
- Ensure estimates meet Coldwell Solar’s high standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD — this is non-negotiable.
- 3+ years’ experience in solar or commercial construction estimating (commercial PV experience preferred).- Experience with preliminary layout design and reading technical drawings.
- Knowledge of battery storage estimating.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and visual.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with Helioscope or similar solar design software.
- Familiarity with permitting, utility interconnection, and incentive programs in California.
