Summary of Functions

The Equipment Operator (Public Works) operates heavy machinery to maintain public infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and public facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Operate graders, dump trucks, and excavators for public works projects.

- Support drainage and stormwater system maintenance.

- Perform snow removal, street sweeping, and debris cleanup.

- Inspect and maintain equipment daily.

- Ensure compliance with municipal and safety regulations.

Organizational Relationships

- Reports to Public Works Supervisor.

- Works with streets and public works crews.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- 2–4 years public works equipment experience.

- CDL license required or ability to obtain.

- Knowledge of public works safety practices.

Physical Demands

- Outdoor work with frequent lifting and equipment operation.

- Exposure to weather, noise, and construction environments.

Work Environment

- Field-based in municipal and public works sites.

Travel

- Local travel daily between worksites.
