The Environmental Technologist supports regulatory compliance through field monitoring and data management.

- 3 years of experience working in Mining, Oil & Gas, or similar industrial environment (post apprenticeship)

- Eligible to become a registered member of ASET (The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals), Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals, or a member of APEGA

- Post-Secondary Diploma in applied science, environmental technology, forestry, or engineering, BSc or higher in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Biology

- Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop strong cross-functional working relationships.

- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage conflicting priorities, and deliver on aggressive timelines

- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information

- Demonstrated competence in the application of Environmental Monitoring methodologies and leading practices in an industrial environment.

- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications such as IFC’s, Regulatory Approvals, Plan Drawings, Production Reports, etc.

Responsibilities

- Conduct surface/groundwater, soil, and reclamation monitoring including sampling, measurements, equipment calibration, noxious weeds, data collection.

- Perform calculations, QA/QC of field forms, compile data tables/figures; contribute to reports and dashboards upload and update databases.

- Follow monitoring plans and SOPs aligned with regulatory approvals flagging anomalies to senior staff.

- Adhere to field safety plans and hazard controls; participate in tailgate and job safety analysis.

- Coordinate routine logistics including site access, sampling schedules, and sample shipments.

- Maintain regulatory compliance of site-specific approval conditions.

- Coordinate with indigenous and community relations.

- Outdoor work in sensitive, remote locations and extreme conditions with trailering, off-highway and aviation equipment.

- Suggest procedural enhancements; adopt new tools and methods as trained.

- Support Performance Monitoring Team when required with instrumentation reads.

Location & other key details

- You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometers' north of Fort McMurray, Alberta

- The shift schedule is a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation (12-hour shifts)

- You will be on a Fly-In-Fly-Out Rotation from one of the approved hubs of Edmonton or Calgary or a Bus-In-Bus-Out of Fort McMurray.
