Fox Complex Sites
for a:
Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the Environmental Technician will safely perform field and administrative tasks associated with the compliance and monitoring programs implemented at the McEwen Ontario Black Fox Mine and Mill site. They must be a committed team player with strong knowledge of and dedication to safety and production methods. Other duties will be assigned as per operational needs.
The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.
Operational / Technical Execution:
•Conduct environmental monitoring for surface water, storm water, wastewater, groundwater, seepage water, receiving water and streams, waste, soil, air sampling programs as required.
•Conduct regular inspections of site in accordance with monitoring programs and report any issues to the environmental coordinator.
•Respond to spills in consultation with environmental coordinator and site personnel.
•Ensure spill kits are adequately stocked for mitigation of spills.
•Ensure hazardous and non-hazardous waste is managed for proper disposal as per O.Reg. 347.
•Maintain inventory of sampling equipment and materials sufficient for conducting required monitoring programs.
•Operate and maintain water treatment system, which includes management of water levels, chemical dosing, and in-house monitoring.
•Operation of canoe/boat, ATVs, snowmobile, and work on and near open water.
General Administration and Controls:
•Evaluate field and laboratory data to ensure quality standards are met.
•Compilation of internal and regulatory reports for review and submission by the environmental coordinator.
•Compilation and analysis of analytical data and communication of results to the environmental coordinator.
•Assist in compiling data for internal management and corporate requests.
•Management of environmental databases and ensuring verifications are completed for compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
Qualifications and Skills Requirement:
•Must be authorized to work in Canada.
•Valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation.
•Ability to work safely, efficiently, and always maintain a safety conscious mentality within the Mining environment.
•Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize, reduce or eliminate hazards and situations that may cause problems.
•Self-motivated person, with a positive attitude and possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
•Ability to interact with a wide variety of departments/roles.
•Ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast moving and demanding environment.
•The ability to work positively with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative, and energetic environment is critical.
•College Diploma for Environmental Technician or similar
•Excellent communications skills, as well as competency in computer applications, such as: Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
•Strong report writing skills.
•Related experience with water quality monitoring is an asset.
•Geographic Information System (GIS) experience is an asset.
•Experience using canoe, ATV's, snowmobiles is an asset.
•Experience in a Mine, Mill, or other industrial setting an asset
•Surface mining environments - ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions- occasional underground environment.
•Must be physically fit and capable of performing physical labor such as lifting.
•Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
